OK, Martina, since Stu already started, I’ll correct your post for you.  The distance from your house to the former Tim Hortons location in Virginia Beach that is now closed is 5257 km until you leave South America, then 416.7 nautical miles to the Dominican Republic, then 181.3 km until you leave the Dominican Republic, then 146.7 nautical miles to Turks and Caicos, then 10.62 km until you leave Turks and Caicos, then 828.8 nautical miles until you reach the United States, then it’s 112.5 miles to that permanently closed Tim Hortons in Virginia Beach.

Why did you use nautical miles to the DR?

I used nautical miles for distances over water, kilometers for distances over land in other countries and miles for distances over land in the USA.

OK. Rather confusing. I stick to kilometers when distances are international. Nautical miles would only be used if traveling by boat/ship.

There are McDonald's restaurants in Canada, so why not Tim Horton's in the US, eh? It's just a matter of franchisees operating in different places.
