Do you think legal cannabis is fine ?

Absolutely.  I’m fine with legal just about everything else, too.  The War on Drugs is responsible for too many violations of the Fourth Amendment of US Constitution.  That needs to stop now.

My own state’s drug laws are ridiculous.  The voters passed passed recreational marijuana in the last election but our governor vowed to overturn it and she did.  She’s even leading the fight against industrial hemp, so I‘d really like to see someone else as governor next year.

No. I think it is bad for people.  It takes away their ambition and drive to better themselves.

It did that when it was illegal, and it was just as easy to get. I thought you were against government regulation? And if it being legal is so bad, why should alcohol be legal?

Making alcohol illegal does not go well. We tried it. Alcohol is engraved into the human society.

You seem to have mistaken me for a Libertarian.  I am not. I believe drugs have an overall harm to society  and should be illegal.

But pot being illegal works about as well as Prohibition. It doesn't make it less popular or difficult to get. And since at least the late 1960s, it's just as engrained in society as alcohol.

No, it is not as engraind as alcohol.  Almost everyone has drank in their life.  And drink moderately on a regular basis. Most productive people do not smoke regular.
Pot makes people who smoke regularly  stupid over time. It effects the brain.

Alcohol does not....it makes some stupid while they are drinking it.

That's funny, I know some brilliant people who have smoked regularly for years and are successful professionals such as university professors and law firm partners. Remember the renowned Cornell astronomer Carl Sagan? A regular smoker and definitely not stupid.

I do not know any one who has smoked regularly  who  you cannot tell by talking to them that they are a doper.

Perhaps the reality is that smart people are smart and other people not so much regardless of smoking weed, and the weed doesn't actually change anyone's intellectual ability. You might be surprised at the prevalence of smoking by students at elite colleges and universities.

There are people whom I knew before they smoked and still know several years after they started smoking....They were smarter before they started smoking.

No, I would not be surprised at the amount of "elites" smoke it.  This post was edited by my2cents at June 25, 2022 11:10 AM MDT

I'm fine with it. There are much more important things for law enforcement to do.

A retired DEA agent on another web site said they didn't care about weed.

Perfectly fine, as long as it is is regulated in much the same way as far more dangerous and perfectly legal substances like alcohol and tobacco are. Keep it away from children, and don't drive or operate machinery while under the influence.
Marijuana was only made ILLEGAL in 1933 in the wake of the 21st Amendment, when those law enforcement personnel who had been policing prohibition (ineffectually) found themselves staring down the barrel of unemployment at the height of the Great Depression. Lobbying by the nylon giant DuPont also had a lot to do with it, as hemp was its biggest competitor.

No. Whether legal or not, it can have long-term bad effects.

Nor does "cannabis" in the so-called "recreational" meaning have any proper use as a pain-killer. It will act as an analgesic, apparently, but it still has the hazardous compounds alongside the pain-reducing ones. Medical cannabinoid analgesics, like other plant-based medicines, use only the appropriate extracts.

Also of course if you take cannabis with tobacco, you have the latter's hazards too!

Queen Victoria chewed it to relieve menstrual cramping. She had the longest reign of any British monarch (until recently surpassed by Elizabeth II) and ruled over half the planet - an "Empire upon which the sun never set." Didn't seem to harm her.

Yes, it sure beats alcoholism by a mile.  Still moderation is the key with pot or anything.
