From four hours of torrential non-stop rains, the basement, for the first time, got a truly significant amount of water all over over the basement floor, from wall to wall -- about seven-to-ten inches of water from the city's storm drains backing up into peoples' homes.
The dehumidifier was sitting on the floor, still running. I waded through the water to it, fearing it would "short out" and cause some sort of fire or electrical damage.
Standing in the water, with the dehumidifier still running, I unplugged the cord from the socket. I received the biggest, strongest, literal shock I've ever experienced.
(I shook my head in disbelief at what I had just done but was okay.)
