I think "Night Owl" is a special one, from the eponymous album. Gerry Rafferty was a great songwriter, and this one gains some more meaning when you know of his personal troubles...

Seems to me that when somebody sings "I get a little lonely," they don't mean "a little lonely" at all.

I'm just glad you didn't ask "Night owl? What's a day owl?"

I like this one too but are you aware that this song's original title was One Night Of Sin?  Being released in the 50s, I can understand the rationale in its amendment.

"The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite"       R.E.M.      (that's how the word is spelled for the song)

    I love Stipe's giggle at 2:32

(after , starting at 2:26,  " . . . a candy bar, a falling star, or a reading from Dr. Seuss (giggle, as he starts to sing  "Only to wake her up")
