What meal did your family serve you when you were a kid,

that you absolutely hated, and you've never eaten since you've grown up?

Matzo ball soup. Also, salted cod stew. What was she thinking? We called them cod balls.

Someone made a dish called 'cod balls' on a season of Top Chef and I think they got rave reviews! Your mom was just ahead of her time!

I can help find it. I'm almost sure about which season and maybe even episode. I've got it on Hulu. I'll let you know!

Okay, it might have been flounder balls and salt cod patties.

They make a lot of fish on Top Chef. I don't actually remember everything.

My Dad and I have almost the exact same tastes in food. So there was nothing I was ever forced to eat.

So many things I've never eaten even once since being forced. Others I've been able to have an open mind about and now enjoy (Brussell sprouts, for example).

Terrible thing, forcing kids to eat things they have tried at least once and detest or even gag on.

Unless, of course, the goal is to create lifelong extremely picky eaters, people who have problems with food, and/or fear trying new foods long into adulthood. If that's what the parent is hoping for, by all means, carry on!

    Okra
    Squash
    Turnips
    Beets
    Chitterlings
    Powdered milk
    Puffed wheat cereal
    Sauerkraut from a can
    Spinach from a can
    Vienna sausages

I’m sure there were many others against which I’ve formed a mental block, and therefore cannot easily recall them.

    None.
Mum was a good cook when she was sober.
When drunk she was unconscious so we went without.

It’s oatmeal.  I hated it when I was a kid.  Even the word oatmeal sounds gross to me.  We should just call it porridge which sounds less gross.  I especially never want to eat it because of a really gross story my husband loves to tell about a time his grandma made a big bowl of oatmeal and fed it to the dog.  Eww.

Call it porridge if you like, but how does a different name make the same food more palatable?

A nurse tried to serve porridge to my better half when she was in hospital, and my wife threatened to throw it at her. She's gluten intolerant for starters.

Green beans. In adulthood, when cooking any recipe that calls for green beans i always substitute peas.
