Well, show me the way to the next little girl
    Oh, don't ask why
    Oh, don't ask why
Show me the way to the next little girl
    Oh, don't ask why
    Oh, don't ask why

    That just sounds wrong.

    Very true, yikes.

I never really listened to the lyrics.
I just like the overall music sound - - and how it's so different from most of what I've heard from the group.

How did it get past the record company’s execs?

I thought maybe there were innocent origins to these lyrics so I did some searching, but no, it’s talking about exactly what you’re thinking it’s talking about.  The lyrics were based on a German play about the fall of a decadent society.  They actually had to clean it up quite a bit for the record execs.

That must mean that the record company executives were only thinking of the bottom line, the profit they’d make from the song being released, as opposed to what the lyrics were saying.
      Gee, that never happens.

      Grrrrrrr.

I remember reading an article one time and Sting said (my paraphrase) - -"People, this is NOT a song to play at your wedding reception!"  :)

I wonder if people in general don't listen to lyrics. By listening to the words, I easily picked up on the song's basic meaning.
    :)

Oh what beautiful lyrics including the whole song. I'm glad you saw Hall n'Oates and their whole entourage.
She'll only come out at night
    The lean and hungry type
Nothing is new, I've seen her here before
    Watching and waiting
Ooh, she's sitting with you but her eyes are on the door
So many have paid to see
What you think you're getting for free
The woman is wild, a she-cat tamed by the purr of a Jaguar
    Money's the matter
If you're in it for love
You ain't gonna get too far
Watch out boy she'll chew you up
    (Oh here she comes)
    She's a maneater
    (Oh here she comes)
Watch out boy she'll chew you up
    (Oh here she comes)
    She's a maneater
    I wouldn't if I were you
I know what she can do
She's deadly man, she could really rip your world apart
    Mind over matter
Ooh, the beauty is there but The Beast is in her heart.

I’m not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, Hall or Oates did in an interview a few years after the song’s release that its insider message resonated with people from New York City, which is the “man eater” referred to in the lyrics. The rough life there and how only the strongest survive it. *Shrug.*

How could this be anything but creepy? And is it a double entendre type of song? I bet something is going over my head here.

I love Alice Cooper's music. I didn't know this one until now.

I'll need to look the song up again. I know I know it.
I think I like it, too.

    Thanks, again, for sharing.

I like that Lemonheads cover very much!
    Hadn't heard it until now.

Going to sign off now and come back again to Jane S's question. I'm enjoying all the answers.  :)

    Played backwards it's ever creepier:
"Sleep with me, I'm not too young".
