What's the dumbest thing you believed as a child?

No including Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy.

Oh... I'll come back later - I don't want mine to sit at the top!

But my mom, as a child, thought it was possible to walk on clouds. And two of my best friends (twin brothers) were absolutely convinced that the world used to be colourless, which is of course why old movies look that way.

Those seem pretty plausible to me.

I prefer Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" in black-and-white and it was filmed with all colors.  :)

I watched it for the first time in colour, and it just seemed off to me hehe. Your profile picture is certainly more effective without it :)

    Yes. :)

And George Romero's original 1968 "Night of the Living Dead" was filmed in black and white.

I don't know how dumb it was but I still don't remember when I actually first found out that raisins were a fruit, not candy.

As a youngster, I was always so happy that my parents almost always allowed me to get my favorite candy at the grocery store -- raisins.

Not so dumb. It's not like you thought dog biscuits were cookies! :)

That's a brilliant idea, actually! At least once a day, forbid kids from eating fruit because it's too sweet. ("And give me your broccoli because I need to stay stronger than you!")

When I was in kindergarten, I thought that if you leaned up against or even touched a telephone pole, you would get electrocuted.

When I was about 6 or 7 years old, I thought that if my parents had $100 in the bank, it meant we were a rich family. That specific amount, no more, no less.

I got so distracted by that cute baby,  almost forgot to read your answer.  I once bragged that my father made $35 a week. It seemed like a fortune to me.

All right, here's mine. I'll try to keep it clean, but--

I was circumcised as a toddler (for non-religious reasons), and don't remember ever looking any different - so when I first saw a naked, uncircumcised man, I thought his "tip" had fallen off. Seemed to me he had tugged on it too hard, or gotten it stuck somewhere, or that it simply popped off (like a bottle cap) with age.

I was pretty scared it would happen to me, and did my best to keep it on as long as I could.

You may only have done this to mess with me, but thanks! Lots of funny answers here. Childhood is a wonderful thing - I hope I didn't affect anyone's impression of it. By "it" I mean--never mind.

When I was a few years old, I thought all of the mythical creatures lived on the other side of the mountains in Colorado.  On my family trips to Colorado, no matter how high I swung on the swings, I couldn’t see over the mountains, but when I asked my parents if they would take me to the other side of the mountains, they always said “no”.  They were hiding something from me, I knew it.  For some reason, they didn’t want me to visit the unicorns and the mermaids.  I gave up when dad sat me down in front of the computer and gave me an online geography lesson.

My five-year-old view of the world:

    The reality:

Not so much believing as doing. When I was in kindergarten and my brother was in fourth grade, we would mail pieces of ice on our walk to school in winter.

Snakes in the pipes. I always made sure the bath tub was plugged before I got in and unplugged after I was out.

Oh I have a good one

When I was younger my mom used to buy those dry packaged microwaveable noodle packs. My cousins and I would eat them raw and my mom hated it. She told me there was eggs in the noodles that only died when boiled, and if I ate them raw the eggs would hatch and I would get worms in my butt that the doctor would have to pull out with tweezers.
When I was 19 my boyfriend was eating raw noodles and I told him he would get worms in his butt and he was very confused
