Would you be in favor of universal shoe-sizing (rather than gender specific, as it is in the US)?

Why would this not be a good idea?

No, men and women's feet are very different.  Women's are thinner across the top and their toes are smaller.  It drives me nuts when I order a pair of sandals and they turn out to be unisex, except for the length they never fit tightly.

    Women's size 8 is a men's size 6.

Human feet of both genders come in all sizes. Shoes styles should, too.

No, I don't think it should be made easier for the American public to buy shoes. Background checks, waiting periods, and a home visit to confirm you don't already own more than 10 pairs.

Savvy gets pulled over by the cops (she was watching a hawk and weaved slightly out of her lane). Officer asks to search the vehicle and has questions when he discovers the trunk packed full of shoes.

Just name-drop. Tell them about the grammar cop who knows you, and who will vouch for you in any situation, day or night . . .

(((Of course, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Cough, cough.))))

You are so scandalous, the first pretty thing to come along and you are off and running.

Me? I’m just doing my civic duties in assisting a damsel in distress! She needs me!

Does anybody really care about universal shoe sizing?

    I do!

I was looking at shoes online today, and there were some that I really liked that were men's. But the smallest size they have is an 8 (men's). Not nearly small enough for me. It made me then think about transgender people, and the struggles they must have. I'd start a campaign, but I don't want to deal with being called a woke snowflake. ;)

I have the exact opposite problem of yours when it comes to shoe sizing.

It’s very difficult for me to find shoes for my big old giant feet. Depending on which company, which brand, or which model of shoe they put out, I can go anywhere from as small as a men’s 11 /2 to as large as a 13 1/2. in addition to that, my feet are also wide, I cannot wear a narrow shoe at all.

There been many occasions where I saw great-looking shoes or boots that I wanted to but, but they just weren’t available in my size. Ordering shoes online is completely out of the question for me, I need to be able to try them on and that’s how I make my decision on whether or not to purchase a pair. And I don’t like the practice of ordering something having it shipped to me try it on if it doesn’t fit, send it back, no, thank you.

     Grrrrrr.

Oh, and by the way, your idea of Universal fitting doesn’t seem as if it would be a solution to my situation.

Imagine someone with feet your size who wanted to wear women's shoes! Completely out of luck!

You know what they say about men with big feet, don't you?

    Big feet... large shoes.

People wear different sizes regardless of gender.

    Yes.

It would be very nice for me, a woman, to be able to buy men's shoes on occasion.

I feel very bad for men who wear a size 5.5 or 6 (which is a woman's size 7.5 or 8). They must always have to special order them! I've tried to buy men's size 6... they are NEVER in stock; online or in a store.

Why do you want to wear men's shoes?

Sometimes I like the color options better than those available in women's. Also, sometimes seemingly identical shoes are cheaper for men/boys.

I can't say I've noticed the price difference but I would say women's shoes have more variety of colour.

I'd agree about colors, but sometimes the colors aren't the ones I would choose.

I'm not against it, but I fail to see how it would change things. Certain styles would still be available in the same range of sizes based on the perceived gender of the likely purchaser.

I'm sure you're right. Funny that children's shoe sizes are the same up to a certain age.

I know women with large feet who also struggle to find their size and end up with men's shoes when they'd prefer women's.

That sounds like a solution looking for a problem that doesn’t really exist.

I don’t know, my shoe size is the one size that stays consistent. I don’t really want to change.
