How long does it take for an assassination attempt to turn into a merchandising opportunity?

Apparently, not long.  A website owned by a Donald Trump company is selling "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT High-Top" sneakers with a photo from the assassination attempt for $299.

He was saying 'fight, fight, fight'? I thought it was 'unite, unite, unite, trying to tone down the temperature and bring the country together.  Just like I thought that right after the shooting he called the other victims and their families to offer support. But it turned out he was actually calling RFK Jr., looking for support. How can I be so wrong all the time?

You really need to get your act together, Jane.  Next thing we know, you'll be telling us you're voting for Trump.

Well, how about that selfless act captured in the photo? He exposed his head and chest, making himself a  clear target, so that if there were additional shooters, the bullet wouldn't hit the secret service agents. Am I supposed to believe that he was just being reckless and dumb?

I think it shows Trump has no street smarts – someone from the hood would know to make themselves a smaller target. There is a photo of Trump with arm up in the air and the SS agent had to block it with his arm – so the agent had to hold Trump up with one arm. Cheers!

I'm guessing that people are told what to do when under Secret Service protection and that's not it.  I also can't tell if the agents were failing to shield him or if he prevented it. But, I honestly don't know what my own reaction would be.

I only know that I would NEVER, EVER take a bullet for Trump.

    As a foreigner, I might.

Perhaps it would cause him and his followers to rethink their attitude (singular), make fewer assumptions, and stop feeling like others oppose them out of emotion only.

Ah, who am I kidding -- he'd tweet at my mother and go back to practicing prison mini-golf.

Don't count on him tweeting at your Mum.  I don't think he's called the wife of the man who was killed at his rally although President Biden did.

Yes Trump did indeed call the wife of Fire Chief Corey Comperatore who died during the assassination attempt. She said he was very nice and said he would also call her in the coming weeks to check in her and the family.

Yes. Biden also called....she did not take his call. She said her husband wouldn't have wanted her to. This post was edited by my2cents at July 17, 2024 4:39 PM MDT

Trump had not reached out to the family prior to Tuesday as he continued on the campaign trail and announced his VP pick.  I guess better late than never.

Yes another failure of many of the SS. The agents were not even tall enough to protect him.  That lady was doing her best and I think of them she was doing the best job at trying to shield him...but she was a foot or more shorter. She should have never been part of that part of the detail.
Never blame an injuries person for their actions during a trauma.

Maybe they didn't really want to protect him.

I think you maybe right.   There a number of things that were simply not done and/not done correctly.

Well, when the agents were trying to get him to keep his head down and he wouldn't, it didn't make their job easier. Not blaming, just observing.

it's hard to protect someone who's foolish enough to stand straight up when he's been shot at.  Of course, if he hadn't done that, they couldn't have sold the merchandise with him yelling, Fight, fight, fight."  If there was a second shooter, Trump made himself a glaring target.  Don't blame the SS agents, blame the jerk who doesn't have the smarts to crouch down.

They did not even surround him properly.

He stood up to show the people he was ok. You do not blame a person during a trauma for their actions.

All of the agents should have been tall enough to cover him....they weren't and that is one of many failures of the SS.

This is an interesting read and I think it's pretty objective. Please do not infer anything about my own opinions or motives in posting this link. I have no dog in this fight.

I thought he was saying - buy buy buy because he knew he had sneakers to sell. If Trump cared 2 hoots for the victims he would be donating the profit from the sales to them. Cheers!

And as they began to move him toward the limo, he was asking about whether any attendees were injured. It only sounded like he was concerned that he might lose his shoes.

Really, which president/candidate sold NFTs, gold sneakers, now sneakers with his bloodied ear, etc.?
