He put in for retirement no later than February,  that's how much notice is required. He served four years beyond requirement. If that was going to leave his unit short, they'd have denied him retirement until the mission was completed, that does happen and didn't this time, so the NG was absolutely okay with it.

The American people deserve to know the timeline. And people can make their own decisions.  I have not been able to find anything saying when he requested to retire or even that there is a standard time frame for such a request. How did you come up with Feb for a May retirement?

Personally I do not think this is the worst he has done. This post was edited by my2cents at August 11, 2024 9:44 AM MDT

His immediate supervisor says that is not the case.  And Waltz improperly requested his retirement after Waltz said he was going after Feb 2005.
He was interviewed on CNN explaining it.   They knew in fall of 2004 they were going just not the time.

The more they attack, the more that vets, the military,  and military families will stop supporting the right. I do not understand their strategy. This former congressman gives his take and I imagine that posting this will draw criticism about as well.

That clears up a lot for the non-military folks here. Thanks.

Why would anybody vote for a draft dodger, convicted felon, traitor, grifter, rapist, pedophile. Harris is going to mop the floor with that orange douchebag. Might as well get used to it now because he's going to lose AGAIN!!! :):):):)

Five years of my Naval career were during the Vietnam war...I never saw combat, but was my service not important? I can actually call myself a Vietnam vet, but I don't. You are grasping at straws...just like trump.

All military service is important and needed and to be respected.
It is service men who served with Walz or hd to replace him who brought it up.

As far as I have been told by other vets who served in Vietnam,  they refer to those who served in Vietnam as Vietnam vet and those who served other places at the same time  as Vietnam Era vets.  I do not know the official policies on that.  It was way before my time.  I only know what my Uncles and friends Fathers told me. (My Father was not old enough to serve at that time)
