Hi O-uknow, I am interested in your Q and wonder, do you have a link that inspires or relates to the question?
Growing up during Cold War One, people assumed then that Communism must really be working well, because the USSR was so powerful militarily. However, if memory serves it turned out that the USSR was spending something like 30% of GDP on the arms race.
With that kind of commitment, it becomes a question of whether or not the capability is available for the buying?
Also, I am reading KILLING THE RISING SUN, How American Vanquished World War II Japan; and MacArthur, as great a general as he was, consistently underestimated the fighting ability of Japan. I am no hawk, but still seems to me that we need to be similarly cautious about underestimating Russia.
I have my mind. You have a link to it through your responses. Let us remember it is Russia, NATO would be dealing with which is a scaled down version of the old Soviet Union. That alone makes it less capable. Why do you think Putin is trying to form it back?
Okay, I'm back. Try this dated article. here is the link. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/03/27/how-scary-is-putins-russia-compared-to-the-soviet-union-this-chart-has-some-answers/?utm_term=.f2f5dba2d430
Capable of waging war against the US? Of course. Capable of winning such a war? Unlikely. But any such a conflict would cause so much devastation that we would all end up losers.
It's a frightening time to have a galoot in the White House. Of course, America's opponents could scarcely fail to utilise his ineptitude and turn it against America.
No, we have been seeing the opposite. At first they test him and then wait for a reaction which they got when he tomahawked Syria. Now they are being more cautious. Inept or not he is unpredictably dangerous to them and that may be good for America.
Of course? A skirmish of course but a full on war I have my doubts. If we are trying to invade them they might kick our butts but them outside of their sphere of influence waging war, No, not for long.

Well for all we know Russia could have a lot of NATO defense and communication systems already hacked and maybe they could be shut down in an instant. They also have a large well trained army and I figure their capable of waging war on NATO. Cheers!
