Would this have saddened you?

I had to drive to the same place on a highway yesterday and today. Yesterday a large deer was dead along the highway. Today someone had tied a brightly colored helium balloon on a string to the dead animal and the balloon kept bopping around in the wind above the dead animal.

Sad at the Deer being dead... probably
    but seeing the balloon
would think that someone was letting people know
so that someone could take care of it

RIP deer, but great idea as a warning sign for coming cars about the presence of deer in the area.

Yes, you and I? We'd have stopped the car and we'd have sobbed onto each others' shoulders and in to each others' arms!
    :)
I found the site somehow disgraceful for the deer. Crazy, I know.

Back to crying for both of us!

Now THAT puts a whole new terribly disturbing light on the site!
    :)

    That's great!

That movie freaked both my wife and daughter out. My wife is arachnophobic, my daughter has it for clowns, so when Pennywise morphed into a gigantic spider ...
The movie didn't bother me, the book made me want to chunder. What the kids did to keep Pennywise down the first time - they COULDN'T film that bit. Stephen King has a diseased mind, it's probably sitting on his desk in a jar next to "the heart of a small boy".

I didn't know about a new version! Let me know when it's released and we'll go. But if we pass any dead deer with balloons along the way, we're turning around.

What does chunder mean?  I'm a bit rusty on Australian.

"What the kids did to keep Pennywise down the first time - they COULDN'T film that bit. "

    DEFINITELY!
To say that the scene in the book shocked me is putting it mildly.

I see deer lying by the roadside a lot. I prefer to believe they are sleeping.

Somehow I found the balloon added a sense of indignity to the deer, even though others here have suggested very good reasons for someone adding the balloon. Their ideas made me feel a bit better.

Seeing this would have upset me, but... definitely not as much as what I've seen back in December. My boyfriend and I were walking by this busy road near where he lives, ready to cross, but before we even did so I looked over to see a dead kitten laying a few feet over. That evening I couldn't stop thinking about the little guy and ended up telling my boyfriend that it would make me feel much less horrible if it were put to rest rather than left on the side of the street, so the next morning he buried it in his backyard for me while I was at work.
To this day though my heart still aches from seeing that, especially because it was so close to Christmas... :'(

I would be sorry that the deer was hit and died, possibly after suffering.  The balloon is both happy and a way for the authorities to find it.

I have seen a State truck and workers driving around with a stack of dead deer on the special carrier on the back of the truck. It's good to remove the critters before the big trucks squash 'em into a bloody stain.
