Would this have saddened you?

I had to drive to the same place on a highway yesterday and today. Yesterday a large deer was dead along the highway. Today someone had tied a brightly colored helium balloon on a string to the dead animal and the balloon kept bopping around in the wind above the dead animal.

Last time I went to Canberra, I saw dozens of road-killed kangaroos on the verges of the Federal Highway. Roos haven't got the sense God gave a doorknob. A little depressing, but you get inured to it.
Had they been bilbies, THAT woukd have saddened me. Bilbies are endangered, kangaroos are not.

    Thanks, Slartibartfast!
I guess I found the attached balloon added somehow a sense of indignity for the deer to me.
    :)
Other aM's have suggested some good reasons for the balloon, though.

What saddens me is that animals are being slaughtered by the droves for even less purpose than being in the way on a highway.

Dogs are being neglected, cats too.

Animals don't matter.   That is what saddens me.

There are even worse indignities.   And you are very right-on, Welb.

It is sad, but even sadder if it is a doe,  because does usually have babies around. I'm thinking a person put a balloon on there so that drivers can see it on the road and not run into it, causing an accident. Deer on the road, during deer hunting season, is a common happening.  There should be signs around, warning drivers to slow down at those crossings.

    Hi Marguerite, the Beloved!
Yes, areas near where I live have many Deer Crossing signs. This particular deer was off the road but, still, it was right beside a 70 mph speed limit highway, so the balloon was probably added to help make it visible, like you said.
I hadn't thought about if it were a doe. Yeah, that would be sadder.
