When you were in school what is something your teacher did or said that you did not like?

One of our teachers liked to grab a kid by the hair and give a couple of yanks. Nasty!

    I'm 67.

Who cares.  The last time I had a group of teachers, they were half my age or less.  SO?  WHO REALLY GIVES TWO FIGS?

You must have been kind of slow in school.

Are you going to bring up the PAIN I ENDURED?  ARE YOU?

I was a genius.  The nuns just did not understand me.  I tried to model myself after them too.

I had an 8th grade science teacher who told me "You wouldn't understand it." NEVER say that to any student. It indicated to me she didn't know the answer.

Well, if she were talking about the Schroedinger wave equation, she may have been right.  But a much better response would have been "you need a few more courses before it would make sense to you."

As a Science teacher I would have said (And did so on occasion.), "Great question...I really don't know, but I will try to find out for you."

(H2O)3...it doesn't mean anything, but I can visualize a dimwitted teacher asking it. This post was edited by Element 99 at September 15, 2017 11:48 PM MDT

  • Mostly the teachers I disliked were ones who couldn't control the class, or ones who became incredibly irate any time a student acted up a little. Teachers shouldn't fly off the handle so easily, but they also must command respect, and if a class gets rowdy frequently and the teacher is unable to quiet things down, then obviously they aren't respected. It's not easy, I would know, I've taught high school Latin before (a small class with some exceptionally bright students, but nonetheless), but some people are just not cut out for the job.

I agree. That usually happens to rookies and old-timers who are getting tired of teaching.

I was more embarrassed than angry or anything.

In sixth grade - about 12 or 13 years old?
We were given a situation on a piece of paper and were then asked to "finish the story." (I don't remember the exact words or instructions but that was the main thing to do - - finish the story.)
My "finishing" including adding a car which broke down on a deserted road and the passengers having to then walk to the nearest house in a storm. The house was a scary big house and the living dead were involved and an alien spaceship.

Before handing back our graded assignments, the teacher first chastised the entire class; something like, "Your assignment was simply to finish the story. [And she then lifted my paper up as the example; I recognized my writing.] Some of you went on and on and ON. The next time, just finish the story."

I guess you could have written...'Then a black hole formed and the Universe was sucked into it.' REALLY the end.

I would have gone as red as a beetroot when I recognised that it were my paper that she had lifted up.

The history master hated mathematics and would throw any geometry set he saw out of the open window which I had to sit by in all weathers. Being the class's star mathematician, I had to keep my wits about me.
