Did you learn Esperanto?  If not, you may have partially answered your own question.

The Nazis rejected it because Zamendof was Jewish. It didn't go far from there. How about this; an Esperanto book written in Russian. HUH?

There are plenty of languages for everyone. We don't want any more.

That is exactly the point bh! ONE language that everyone speaks so we can communicate and facilitate engaging with other cultures.  SIGH. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

  • Because it was a stupid answer to a problem that didn't exist.  Couple that with the fact that people like having different cultures and protecting there own.

It's one of the official languages of Republic of Molossia but since Molossia isn't recognized by the UN or any other country and it only has six people I guess most people in the world just don't have a need to learn it.

I'm gonna GOOGLE Molossia since I have never heard of it Livvie. I'll get back to you if there is anything substantive about it that I have to share with you. I read that 2 million people speak it. So I'm gonna take a SWAG here and say you're being cute and joking. On the chance you aren't I'm hedging my bet. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

I googled Esperanto-speaking countries and that was the only result along with the former Republic of Rose Island.

Anyway, I think most people learn a language because they want to go to a country that speaks that language.  I took Spanish and German in high school and I didn't do that great with either language but I went to Germany for my honeymoon and I have a lot of cousins in Argentina so learning German and Spanish makes sense to me.

Since there aren't any Esperanto-speaking countries it's basically the same thing as learning Elvish or Klingon.  I won't judge those that do learn it and speak it but it's not going to catch on like a national or ethnic language. This post was edited by Livvie at October 27, 2017 9:51 PM MDT
