"The proof is in the pudding". Why pudding? Why not some other dessert? In fact, why a dessert in the first place?
The truth is, "the proof is in the pudding" is a corruption of "the proof of the pudding is in the eating", meaning you can't know what something is really like until you try it. But again I ask: why pudding? :P
