Yes, when I was six. We lived in San Francisco and my brother had the top bunk bed and I had the bottom one. A particular strong earth quake hit in the middle of the night that shook my brother out of bed. The fall caused him to bite half his tongue off (the top two were missing) It also knocked all the table ware off the shelves and cracked a huge hole in our bathroom.
Nevan, I've had one awaken me. It was a few years ago. Living in California can be pretty shaky down here too :s! It is very scary not being sure the land is safe and secure. I'm not a big fan of them either.
Yes, that happens every now and then here. One might feel a quake at any time here, but they only go up and down, so it is easy to not notice, or top pass it off as a wobble in your chair.
Nope. We get a lot of small earthquakes here in NH but they are rarely felt. We had one Thursday I think, the last significant one I remember was in the fifth grade so over a decade ago. I will fight any earth quake that wakes me up.
Never. The closest I came to any earth-trembling feel was when a sonic boom hit caused by jets going faster than speed of sound.
A sonic boom is the sound associated with the shock waves created by an object traveling through the air faster than the speed of sound. Sonic booms generate significant amounts of sound energy, sounding much like an explosion to the human ear. The crack of a supersonic bullet passing overhead or the crack of a bullwhip are examples of a sonic boom in miniature.[2]
Contrary to popular belief, a sonic boom does not occur only at the moment an object crosses the speed of sound; and neither is it heard in all directions emanating from the speeding object. Rather the boom is a continuous effect that occurs while the object is travelling at supersonic speeds. But it only affects observers that are positioned at a point that intersects an imaginary geometrical cone behind the object. As the object moves, this imaginary cone also moves behind it and when the cone passes over the observer, they will briefly experience the boom.
