Was not too bad, was during the summer . Worst experience was when I found a place to sleep between a shed and a fence for the night, I drank my dozen beer then when I lay down discovered I was lying in a pile of stale dog poop.
Oh no!! That sounds like a "Rock bottom" kind of situation. We've all had times when we look around and think "This is pretty bad, I can do better." I hope that your life is going great now. : )
Pretty good I quit the booze a few years ago, getting old age pension now and living in a one bedroom apartment in a senior's residence. My health managed to remain quite well intact. My doc says it's amazing that I never developed liver problems or other health issues.
No I haven't been homeless before. Thankfully my family worked a lot in various places and always gave me jobs and put me to work growing up so I always worked since I was 15 and I always had money. I was fortunate.
When my first wife kicked me out the second time, I slept in a college chemistry lab for a couple of weeks. Got busted by the professor I was working for during my graduate studies and had to sleep in my car in the lab parking lot. She let me come back a couple of weeks later.
Yes and no. When I was 20 I did live on the streets of Berkeley but only because I had nowhere else to go and did not want to return to my parent's comfortable home back east. but not for more than a few weeks as an older man eventually let me stay with him.
When I was in college I lost my dorm room due to a paperwork mistake, and by the time it was corrected, the room had been given to somebody else. So I said *** you people and I moved into an abandoned water tank on campus. Nobody ever noticed.
Wow, that had to be interesting iving in an abandoned watertank and quite an unfortunate situation. It sounds like you are a resilient person. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve never had to sleep on the street, no. But growing up I did live in homeless shelters a few time. It was alright. It really gives you a new view of what homelessness and homeless people really look like.
That must've been hard staying in shelters especially at a young age. It's nice that it gave you a clear perspective and a mature understanding of homelessness. I hope that you were safe in those shelters. Thank you for sharing.
I was a low-dollar landlord for ten years. Then I started to build a new house for myself and couldn't finish it fast enough to move into timely. My mother rented a trailer to me for a few months. That kept me off the streets.
