Men...Are you clean-shaven or do you have some face fur? OK...I can't discriminate...women too. This ain't the adult mug.

I can't stand having facial hair, so I shave it off daily.

My husband has a beard.

I have a short full beard at the moment. I'll probably shave it at the 6 month mark...my target. 

I'm clean-shaven.

I'm shaven, but not clean. Why do we say "clean shaven"? What is the alternative? "Dirty shaven"? "Dirty whiskered"? Why this prejudice against hair?

  Nowadays and for the past fifteen years or so, I only have a mustache, which I usually keep trimmed similar to military (US Marine Corps) grooming regulations. 

  When my facial hair first began to grow, I was already in the Marine Corps for almost an entire year. Marines cannot wear beards,* so I spent my entire three tours of duty with just a mustache. When I left active duty, there were times I experimented with wearing various combinations of facial hair for a few years: stubble, five o'clock shadow, full beard, long 1970s-style sideburns, goatee, thick mustache, thin outline of hair along the jawline, etc. That all stopped when I began to lose the Battle of The Advancing Grays and Whites about fifteen years ago.  By keeping only a close-cropped mustache, I control the grandpa look.
