I read today that there are more American kids shot dead in their schools then army personal killed in war zones around the world.

Should that indicate that there is someting vastly wrong with Americans right to bare arms ?

You make one entrance/exit. And have an armed officer at that entrance. Bigger schools may need 2 officers whom understand there job is to immediately go to and confront the shooter...to stop the shooting. Not create an perimeter etc.

Could they not just shoot one officer and take his gun as well.....I have no idea at how big your school complexes are either.....Could they not just the fences that surround them of shoot to kill from outside the perimeters even ?

Most schools don't have fences. Yes, a shooter could shoot the officer. But I have never heard of that happening. In my area, you go to the school and can only get to the office. I assume they have a silent alarm or something to alert the officer of danger.
Yes, at open and close of the day is certainly more vulnerable with students moving in a out. Not sure exactly how to combat that. But ir there is known to be an armed officer ready to return fire, should help at least limit casualties.

That's more than likely true....we can all be brave when there is no one at hand to shoot back...Surly though the bigger the school the more armed men are needed to police it...

The suicide rate for the Army that year was nearly 30 suicides per 100,000 soldiers, well above the national rate of 12.5 per 100,000 for 2012. Military suicides dropped 20% the year after that, and then held roughly steady at numbers significantly higher than during the early 2000s.Apr 1, 2016

Guns kill for very long distances and cant always tell who's shooting or where the bullets are comming from  ....the others kill only when standing close by ....
you can also fire off many bullets in one second Plus you can't outrun a bullet....

And the sole reason for a gun is to kill or injure - - the other means of killing in the cartoon all have other purposes. Though I still like the cartoon!

The purpose of a gun can be to defend life and stop injuries....also for recreation.

    Thanks, my2cents.
I still see it, as in defending life, a gun still injures/kills and hunting kills (unless, yes, shooting at inanimate objects/targets) animals. (And, yes, I get it that we slaughter animals by the thousands to feed the world.)
But I see your point -- guns are not always used to just go out and senselessly kill lots of people.

It popped into my head a bit ago --  just the presence of a gun/the sight of a gun sometimes could defend. It could defend without being used. (But if specifically used, it is used to kill or injure.0
Don't know if I'm making sense here.

Or to shoot clay targets (trap shooting)
I have shot a gun many times. But I have used a gun without the intention to harm any living thing.
But yes, many times just seeing or knowing a gun is available is enough to stop a crime.

Thanks, my2cents. It takes me a while sometimes to think some things through.
And I know some friends who do the clay target stuff.
I do think that something needs to change - - somewhere - - as far as the increasing frequency of these mass shootings.

We need to secure the schools.  One in one out....armed officer at the entrance. Metal detectors if needed. I am  not opposed to armed teachers as long as continuely screened and trained.

Actually the frequency is not increasing...there were more in the 1990s than today.

Really? That's hard for me to believe. Not that I don't believe you but maybe my head is including mass shootings in general. But maybe there's been more of those in the past, too. It certainly doesn't seem like it.
My head has been in a bad place for months -- it could be that, magnifying the horrible stuff that happens. This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at May 23, 2018 3:52 PM MDT

Bump stocks allow a semiautomatic to fire up to 10 rounds per second. Still legal (for now).

Does the shooting last Friday in the Texas school count?   Or have we actually beaten the other guys.  The war zone guys.  Actually, my friend, this does not parse.

The war has cost us so many lives and I need to know if you seriously mean throughout history?

Come on.  There are 20 at the most kids decimated in a shooting.  There are 2,000 soldiers at least in every stinking war around this world that America has its fingers in, meaning some army personnel or navy or marines etc.  etc.  There has to be at LEAST 2000 war killings per year.

Way more than all the school shootings.  But that does not disguise the horror.  You know?  Think about why guns are invented, supposedly.   To keep us from harm.

Now the guns are with our babies and they are being used on them.   That is chilling.  They will be in our homes next.  Not our churches, because our churches are now filled with White Supremacists.

I went to a Catholic sermon that I was forced to attend and the priest, a man of God, mentioned FOX News and how important it is, IN THE SERMON.
