The witching hour. A day of reckoning. The seven-year itch. In a New York minute. The last second. A month of Sundays.


  What are some other expressions or adages based on time periods, and just to make it interesting, would you please include any of them that you know in other languages* too? Thanks!

*If you don't mind, please provide the English translation of any foreign-language entries and their meanings.

    Back in the 1800s, the coon must have made a huge impression on people.  Even thought their reputation didn't prove to be a favorable one,  look at Meriwether Lewis.  He liked the fur so much he wore a coon hat during the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  :) :) This post was edited by Merlin at September 2, 2018 9:22 AM MDT

  • "Patootie" ... I like it!  Been a long time since I've heard that word. So long it seems that they've  added-on a new definition for the word.    patootie (plural patooties) (chiefly US, slang) The buttocks. (chiefly US, slang) An attractive girl; a girlfriend. 

    I wonder how a pretty girl or your girl friend would feel about being called a patootie?  :))
