I don’t meet people off the internet. In theory it’s nice. This post was edited by Rizz at September 27, 2018 6:32 AM MDT

I won ten pounds once and it it was hardly enough to get me to the shops and back.. To use a London transport bus you need to buy an government Oyster card for five pounds and put Ten pounds on it before being allowed to get on any bus :(

    Some.

I'd love to visit you, Just Asking, Merlin, Whitehair, Adaydreambeliever, Sharonna, and Danilo.
I'd love to visit Randy too, but he'd probably refuse to break anonymity. This post was edited by inky at September 27, 2018 8:31 AM MDT

Element 99, you seem to me like a decent, intelligent, witty person,
with a strong interest in science which always makes for interesting conversations,
and I suspect probably values and beliefs that I would tend to agree with.
From your recent mention of robins flying south and colorful leaves, I'm guessing you live in some beautiful area in the far north of the States. Would be lovely to visit.

But don't worry, I'm far too poor to afford a long trip anywhere, and my chances of winning lotto are less than a trip with Elon Musk to Alpha Centauri. This post was edited by inky at September 27, 2018 7:46 PM MDT

A mid-westerner on the edge of that magnificent lake and so close to the Canadian border! Now wonder! :)
That would be a divine place to visit.
If I won lotto, I'd hire a car and a chauffeur and ask you to be our tour guide(paid if you preferred), show us the sights, and explain the  animals, plants and ecosystems to us - what a wonderful trip that would be! :)

Wow...I am flattered. We have a park here, "Oak Openings" that has species unique to the world. Look it up. I have a car and a spare room. And of course, I would love to visit your part of the world. I have only been to Sydney.(1972). I'll bet you could show me great things. Wiki - "The Oak Openings Region is a globally rare ecosystem composed of over 130 square miles (340 km2) in Northwest Ohio. The land consists largely of oak savannah and grassland prairie."

Looked at loads of images - glorious forests, lakes, deer, wildflowers - exquisite in every season - what a wonderful place to live in! :)

Yes, it would be lovely to show you around. Sydney has changed a lot since you were a seaman. Much more sophisticated now and totally multicultural.
Apart from the geography, cultural events are the main attraction.
As a scientist you might enjoy visiting Australia's CSIRO research sites - choose your discipline and we go there.

    In my area...

Lillypilly and Turpentine wriggle their limbs and roots down the long ridge.

Shadows creep towards our tin shack.

The sun silhouettes Antarctic Beech and Cedar trees to crown the crater’s edge —

sears sky with memories of magma.

As air cools and dusk birdsong begins, a Swamp Wallaby,

    rare, thick-bodied, dark-furred and alone,

    thumps great leaps

    into forest

    gone.

Moon rises with kookaburra’s last call.

    Mopoke hoot-hoots.

I turn my mare home, feed her, rug her, turn her out to her friends.

    Warm by my hearth-fire,

out there, marsupials wake to reclaim the night.

Looks like you have a truly fantastic park system up there! Which is your favorite trail at Oak Openings?

It has been many years since I have been there. The trails aren't named, but I like the one that encircles Lake Evergreen. I would walk it and stop to fish at various places. I used to take the Scout troop camping there.

Metroparkstoledo.com includes names/colors of trails. Ferns and Lakes(blue)and Sand Dunes(red) both look incredible! The entire metropark system looks amazing. I may have to plan a trip to Toledo for real! :)

That might be so these days.
But back in EP days some people did have parties where they met in real life - mostly management and some site users.

Sharonna would not want my conservative azz near her. A wealthy conservative who voted for Trump?  Hell no!

I don't play the lottery.  Though a few times used to a little because it was an office activity.  No not interested in a "world tour".
