What’s the worst job you’ve had?

I’ve only had two my entire life. My first job was at a grocery store and I started working at the prison shortly after I turned 22. Neither job is horrible. I didnt dislike the grocery store and I don’t dislike being a corrections officer. I’ll be glad to retire when I turn fifty.

I worked for one year on a road construction survey crew in Florida.  The heat was enough to make anyone cranky and my boss, the crew chief, was no exception.  As the second summer approached I was hired away by my first real job in my chosen field, biology.  What a lucky break!

I worked 31 years for a great company with great benefits.  I had seven positions during those years.  They were all wonderful other than the first one.  I had to stick out six months in that first position before I could transfer to a different department.  From there I was always happy with my employment.

  • I worked in a cotton mill for a few weeks at the age of 16. The only good thing that came from it was that I was able to better understand the life and labor that my family had chosen for themselves for many years. I decided that it wasn't for me and I left never to return.

  • The worst job I ever had was working for Joe Wieder products, doing line production.  The job itself was OK, but the men there including the president apparently felt it was a meat market and constantly hit on all of us.   The president's girlfriend was my boss, and she had to have known what he was doing.  I was very young though, newly married,  and I felt bad for her, so I quit after a few months.

My father was an early customer. He had a set of those grip building devices and the stretchy muscle building things. None of it put muscles on dad!

When I was young I worked in a laundry, as a chambermaid in a motel, cleaning people's houses, in a supermarket, as a waitress in a hotel restaurant, a cleaning woman/au pair, janitor,  receptionist, delivered pizza, sold pretzels and handed out leaflets on the street, panhandled, and even turned tricks.  Take your pick.
