*RBG is Ruth Bader Ginsburg which y'all probably know but I didn't want to assume so I thought I'd asterisk it.
Then the larding of SCOTUS will fall always 6-3. The don's partisan lapdogs and the non-don's! Boy izzy he lucky or what? Beginner's luck? The luck of the draw? It ain't the luck of the Irish because he ain't Irish izzy? Scotch on his mum's side and German on his dad's. No Irish anywhere atall atall atall? Let him pray each day for the withdrawal from SCOTUS of the notorious RBG. The only thing he will ever pray for probably.
I'm pretty sure that he is hoping she retires so he can pick another Kav. But what I'm wondering is now that the Dems control the house can they block Trumps pick. Cheers!
It's a lot more positive than the ignorance of thinking that the House of Representatives has any influence over the confirmation of presidential appointees. Has American elementary education really become that dumbed down?
Hello there Stu Bee... Yes it is. What I find rather curious is how those who show the most passion in their opinions of politics and government haven't a vlue as to how the system works, it is not rocket science. The U.S. Constitution is only 4 pages in parchment, maybe 30 some standard printed pages and the D.O.I is a page. It would seem that if one held a desire to debate the subjects, a little time spent reading our "founding" documents would be beneficial. More curious still is most of these people fancy themselves as educated and correct and exhibit the fury of a baby banging its spoon on their highchair ( I realize in the above answer, this is not the case as Nanoose asked an honest question about the house's authority) but still, this is basic stuff.
Indeed. If memory serves, I think I learned about the Senate's role in confirmations in fifth or sixth grade, certainly by the time I was in junior high.
So you too have noticed all the extrapolating from wishful thinking to reality by certain folks on here? Actually, they're not alone, it happens all over.
Oh Yes, and frustratingly so. Sadly many of those certain folks have decided to substitute intellect with "feelings" and often those feelings manifest themselves through some inane Meme or a personal attack.
The House holds the pursestrings/budget and also theoretically is supposed to perform oversight. The Senate does the Advise and Consent. Remember how they confirmed that abomination Brett Kavanaugh? With the Senate in his pocket he will have his way appointing standard partisan crap as he just did in appointing Matthew Whitaker to replace Jeff Sessions. Whitaker is "acting" AG temporarily. Eventually a permanent AG will be appointed which will require the Advise and Consent of the Senate. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday Nanoose.
You know what else? RBG, then known as Ruth Bader, was my mom's sorority sister in Alpha Epsilon Phi, a year behind her in the early 1950s at Cornell. Her future husband, Marty Ginsburg, was in my mom's class. Mom says that all she remembers is that Ruth was always at the library studying.
I sincerely hope so Sharon. She is feisty tough determined and if she can possibly hang on and return she will. She has had health issues before and I bet she'll try to hang on until the 2020 election when (please God) a Democrat is elected prez. You know the appointing of Whitaker is probably unconstitutional. He has written many articles about the investigations calling it a WITCH HUNT. He says he will never recuse himself. There are laws about that so we shall see what happens but if he is allowed to continue in that job he will be doing so ILLEGALLY and UNCONSTITUTIONALLY. Of course the don has done that since day 1 so we can't hold our breath for sure. But yesterday there were protest marches in every state about this egregious action on don's part. The people are ANGRY.Fingers crossed the anger grows larger and broader and wider and deeper and the don backs down. OR ELSE who knows what the ANGRY MAJORITY will do next?
