I'm told that the Australis version is occasionally visible from southern Tasmania. It wasn't when I visited.

I'm sad to say I haven't seen either......Nature can be so spectacular when it chooses....
How lucky we are in this day and age with the invention of modern technology ,cameras, the man made satellites that now orbit our planet......most every on on earth and view these thing and so much more from the safety and comfort of their own homes...

On the other hand ....it's a shame mankind is destroying so much of the wonders of nature that cover our planet....like the decimation of the rain forests ,pollution from industry and the decimation from modern man made war machines...:(

I've seen it several times in my long life. One night, the Channel Eleven weather guy informed the viewers that a spectacular Aurora was in progress.

Our neighborhood has no horizon, so we couldn't see it. But I saw it when our ship was in a Norwegian fjord. I also saw the lights as I was driving the Indiana tollway.

Having no horizon can be a good thing if  you grow outdoor pot and post the pictures on the internet because cops or pot thieves can't use the horizon and trigonometry to find were you live. Cheers!

The cops in this city don't care. I'm sure many of them are users. I would be more concerned about my neighbors. That's the reason I don't grow it.
