Oh, I see. In that case, I guess it's no problem. Hey, wait a second . . . who cleaned out my safe? All of my money is gone, but even worse, my tilde collection! Grrrrr!
I understand, I saw on a documentary few years ago how Americans lock doors of home... I do sometimes, but never really a thought for me lock them. Unless go vacation or something. Weird the little differences In countries. I’m sure if lived in Toronto or something would lock doors though.
Thanks, I hope so too. I think maybe why we feel safe is cos our news/ media focuses on stuff like moose and deer crossings instead of crime lol. I think the news there can make you all paranoid. Just my opinion though.
It depends where people live. In very dense suburbs with close community, good neighbourly relationships and an organised neighbourhood watch, you get few attempts at break-ins. The best targets for thieves are rich suburbs that are not far from poor areas, where there is plenty of separation between houses, privacy screens and people live very separately, minding their own business.
There's a saying among 7th Day Adventists that it's a sin to put temptation in the path of a sinner - so they lock everything automatically.
But then, a determined thief can by-pass anything.
For us, apart from the difficulty of finding our place, if thieves did get access they'd be disappointed at the waste of their time. Most of our things are second hand; nothing has a good re-sale value. There are some great advantages in not owning too much -- easier to look after and less to worry about.
I have no reason to lock anything. Nobody ever comes here. If I lock the door and then croak, nobody knows where the key is and the house would be totally stinkified before they screwed up some courage to break the door.

Yes if I don't forget 'specially in cold weather because sometimes homeless/unknown people get into the (apartment) building . Good idea to be safe than sorry. Used to be a bootlegger guy in the building, told me he answered a knock on his door during the late hours and soon as he opened his door there was a knife at his throat. Couple of guys -cleaned out all his booze.
