My father in law built that - he did the inside carpentry work and it took him 14 months to build it. He has a lot of cool pitchers of it in different stages of construction.  Also I'm pretty sure my father in law had a little help building it. Cheers!

Carpentry? It's steel and reinforced concrete. There's timber panelling inside, but that's work for a joiner, not a carpenter.

Construction commenced in 1959 after several redesigns by architect Jørn Utzon (his original plan was unbuildable - pretty, but there just aren't materials that can take the stresses involved). It took 10,000 contruction workers 14 years to complete. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at April 3, 2019 7:03 AM MDT

Well they would still need carpenters for forms and stuff like that. Cheers!

    Knock Knock.
    Who's There?
    Time.
    Time who?
Time to remind you that this is a question and answer site and not the Randy D spelling B site.

It's not merely a matter of spelling, in this particular instance it's a completely different word entirely.  My posts are harmless, especially if and when you ignore them.

Or I can keep making up jokes about spelling obsessions.

Sure, that's also an option, but don't they have to be funny in order to classified as jokes?

I was there the year they finished building it. You weren't born yet.

    1973. I was four.

I performed there in 1987 - Sydney Eisteddfod. Placed fourth in "German Lieder, Male singer under 23 years".

Excellent. I guess they were still building it in 1972. I can't sing, so congrats. Hey...I'm getting that fusion surgery next week. I hope it works as yours did.

Best of luck mate. It's a lot less likely to be a problem, procedures are getting better all the time. Are they taking an anterior or posterior approach? They did mine from the front - disturbs less muscle tissue.

Posterior, but doc said the way he cuts the two incisions leaves much less muscle damage.

Tom der Reimer by Karl Löwe for that category. I placed seventh overall across all categories (Aria, Oratorio, Lieder, Art Song, Modern), the youngest competitor in the top ten.

That is WAY COOL, as we say here in the States.  I'm going to look that up on YouTube and have a listen.  Congratulations!

Sorry, I thought your initial comment was on response to my reply to Element 99. I performed five songs, all solos - the one mentioned above placed highest. They were:
Aria: Si, Tra I Ceppi by Georg Handel, from the opera Berenice
Oratario: Schlummert Ein by J S Bach, from Cantata BMV 82 (Wachtet Auf)
Lieder: Tom der Reimer by Karl Löwe
Art Song: The Primrosy Gown by Michael Head, and
Modern Popular Ballad: Vincent by Don McLean This post was edited by Slartibartfast at April 3, 2019 2:57 PM MDT

I live a block from where the American Revolution started. Sometimes I go to Walden Pond which is partly in the next town.

SHhhh!  We have some Brits on here that might be kind of sensitive to that Revolution talk.   .^.^
