If you ever dreamed of someday being a professional athlete, which sport(s) did you see yourself playing?

For me, when I was a pre-teen, it was gridiron American football.

It was always going to be American Football for a build like I have. The thing is that I hate football.

Yes, when I was a pre-teen, like yourself, I wanted to be a gymnast.  I loved gymnastics but one day I woke up.  Puberty had hit and I was told I would never make it because my boobs were too big.  So then I went onto my next dream.  And the next.  And the next.

Baseball. One of my friends briefly made it to the pros.

I hated any games that had balls in them....I much preferred gymnastics....cuz I was never that heavy ,I could throw myself about with ease...lol

My sister did gymnastics beautifully.  I am not as limber as most women.  I'm not sure why but it is really a drag.  Gymnastics was really tough for me.
I do like to play with balls but not throw them across the room.  If I do, they tend to come back with vengeance!!

I climbed on everything from a very young age....I was taken up on roofs as a toddler just so I could see all over London....I was quite good on the parallel bars as well....I lost interest in it all when I left school ,but can still do cartwheels and tumbles...:)

I'm not for the high jump I'm afraid....or any sports that can damage your body....
Running a 26 mile marathon is the most stupid thing ever ....can you imagine what damage it does to your body....:(

I seemed to excel in track and field.  I was a good runner and a great jumper.  High jump and long jump were my "field" sports and long distance running was another I excelled in.  Well, not cross-country but I was the anchor on relay teams and ran a mean 800.   400 was tough but I seem to cross the finish line first a lot of the time.
Which leads me into my real dream.
I think the reason I was so good at jumping was because I jumped horses.
I always wanted to be able to ride the horses at Madison Square Garden.  I knew we never had enough money to have such a gallant animal nor ever get me into the top picks as a rider...
But, I always hoped someone would show up at one of my shows and say,
"Hey, she'll the one.!"  "She's the one who knows horses and can bring in the gold."
For me, it wasn't about the competition and bringing in the gold.  I knew that is what they wanted.
For me, it was about being "One with the animal" and ...
    Well,
That "feeling," I know and miss so well.

Fun stuff you've shared here, Merlin!
    :)

I was sprinter in track and field all through my school years, too.

You guys off the blocks are incredible!  I am one of those, "set your mind and see the finish line," sort of magicians.  Somehow I seemed to have ended up crossing it first!
Being the jumper I am, you might have thought I would be excellent at hurdles... but, for some reason, I couldn't take off of my left leg.
It is really odd since I am somewhat amidextrious with my hands.
Lord knows, I am a clutz!
It's always great to see you Welby!  Be Well, honey.  Lots of hugs and loves!

    Good to see you, too!

Yes, I was pretty fast out of those blocks. But those hurdles! I could never do them. I am often a clutz, too, though.
    :)

(I heard I still have some records standing, that's fun!)

    Yes, Be Well

    Oh Baby, and then some!
You thought Superman was faster than a bullet... could leap tall buildings in a single
    bound.
You do know of Pegasus, right?  Well, my friend, guess what? ;)
Not only can I jump over them, I can jump on them, behind them, under them, over them but never inside them.
They did all the work.  I just taught them a way to do it gracefully and on a track of almost impossible turns.  I hope I helped make them want to instead of being forced to.
Impossible Engineering is on TV.  It makes me wonder...  Maybe I could be an engineer.  Naaaaa.  I like to work with animals. ;) :) This post was edited by Merlin at May 29, 2019 9:51 PM MDT
