Yes, it is called hyponatremia. The natremia comes from the old word used for sodium. Hypo means not enough. Excess water can dilute the salts in your body, causing all sorts of bad things, including death.

natremia---the presence of sodium ions in the blood.

Hyponatremia refers to a low level of sodium in the blood. Hyponatremia or low sodium blood levels may result from
(1)excess fluid in the body relative to a normal amount of sodium, or (2) it may be due to a loss of sodium and body fluid caused by chronic conditions like kidney or congestive heart failure.

Overhydration can lead to water intoxication.
(One of the episodes of the original NCIS series dealt with death by overhydration)

Nope. I wrote it the way I meant to write it, and I meant it the way I wrote it.

Drinking too much water dilutes the salt in the body. Salt, or specific compound of sodium, plays a vital function as an electrolyte in the body.

When the body's water levels rise,  cells begin to swell. This swelling can cause many health problems, from mild to life-threatening.

Hyponatremia treatment is aimed at resolving the underlying condition. Depending on the cause of hyponatremia, you may simply need to cut back on how much you drink. In other cases of hyponatremia, you may need intravenous electrolyte solutions and medications.

Health authorities usually recommend eight 8-ounce glasses per day or about 2 litres or 4 pints.
This is called the 8×8 rule - easy to remember.
More in hot weather or during aerobic exercise.
More after diuretics such as coffee, tea, or on waking after drinking alcohol.

That might fall under "water intoxication". When cells in your body are oversaturated with fluid such as water. You can die from this. This post was edited by Zack at August 3, 2019 7:50 PM MDT

Edema comes to mind, but that is not eliminated by less drinking of water.  Of COURSE you can be over hydrated.  I think water boarding comes under that definition.

When we drink too much water, the electrolytes in the stomach are diluted. As they pass through the gut, further dilution happens in the body at the cellular level. Over hydration is also known as Water Intoxication, hyponatremia, and over-hydration and water poisoning.

Waterboarding---an interrogation technique simulating the experience of drowning, in which a person is strapped, face up, to a board that slopes downward at the head, while large quantities of water are poured over the face into the breathing passages.

I'm not sure sufficient water could get into one's body before one dies.  I think water has to get in through the circulatory system rather than through the respiratory system.
