Nope, drinking doesn’t kill the sadism, alas.

  • If I feel like hurting someone, it's usually because I'm hurting inside ... misery loves company.   I'd much rather fix whatever problem I have with someone than proliferate it.  Karma usually takes care of getting even anyway.

Well, that is if you want to hurt them out of anger or revenge. But what if you just need an outlet for the pleasure of the experience?

  • I don't find it pleasurable.

But *if* you did, what would you do as a substitute?

  • I wouldn't even bother giving it that much thought.  They "win" if they bring you down enough to want to get even. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at January 31, 2020 4:45 AM MST

Like I said, this is not about getting even. I am talking about gaining sadistic pleasure from hurting others and methods in which to cope with that without actually hurting others. What are substitutes you can think of?

I either watch myself on video letting someone "have it"...

Or I try to take time to reflect on how pretty darn lucky I've been in life. That usually takes care of any harm-inflicting desires.

That’s because those feelings are based in anger for you. But what if it’s the only way you can derive pleasure?

Well, I am blessed that I can derive pleasure in many other ways.

Since I can't recall the last time I enjoyed inflicting harm on anything/anyone, I don't have a frame of reference to answer your question.

If you did derive pleasure from suffering, what would you try to do as a healthy outlet that might somewhat simulate the experience?

I dunno. Some video games have some pretty violent content. Would watching your video avatar eviscerate someone do anything for you?

I have played video games like that and it is mildly entertaining, but just doesn’t feel very real. I need something more physically real. If only virtual reality technology were a bit better.

I don't think I can be of much help.

It's like your asking me if I liked olives, what sort of olive dish would I make?

I don't like olives. I can't imagine liking olives, so I have no idea what kind of olive dish I'd make if I did like olives.

Breaking things could be satisfying. Maybe I should rip or stab dolls...

  • Breaking lamps is my code for sex lol. But seriously I had a friend who when I was enraged about something for a long while.. bought a bunch of second had plates and took me out to the woods so I could smash them and had a baseball bat for me to beat a tree with. It really helped at the time. I understand you’re not asking for the purposes of releasing personal rage, but still.. maybe being destructive would help?

It wouldn’t be the same exactly, but it definitely sounds like a more fun outlet than others have suggested. It might be something I want to try some time. I could even hang up a dummy or something and throw plates against that.

  • You could try that :) there’s always mental torture! You can’t go to jail for that...I nominate Randy as your victim.
