Meh, as a species, we’ve learned a lot in the 20 to 21 years since that first hoopla, and we’ll continue to learn even more in the next 1078 years to come. There will be no “scare” as the year 3000 approaches. Yawnsville.B. Your tildes will still be just as worthless then as they are today, and your descendants will hate you for leaving them piles of useless junk. Start unloading them now to avoid the shame.C. In retrospect, the 1999/2000 ballyhoo will seem quaint and antiquated by standards of 2999. No one will be so silly as to assume there will be any problems.D. The mantra of the day will be: “We’re all going to die, we’re all going to die!” (Well, the people who will be alive at that time.) Mad panic in the streets.E. Advances in technologies will have by then surpassed human ability to control, contain, overcome, or understand it. The outlook will be even more grim than Y2K.

Who would own this system? Would be a big battle over ownership?

Now, in 2021, what are some products or procedures that are being touted as revolutionary that you suspect might bring defects just as bad as plastics have become?

What are the names of some cell phone service provider companies that you remember having existed at one time but are no longer in business?
Since the first cell phone (or mobile phone) service provider companies emerged over twenty years ago, many of them have come and gone. The strongest ones that survive today are in deep and fervent competition with each other for market share. It’s not always the largest or the best companies that remain in business, admittedly, some of them are pretty crappy. They might have been small regional entities, or subsidiaries of larger conglomerates, or country-specific, or attached to a particular product line. This question only refers to the service side of the business, not phone manufacturers, phone designers, etc. Of course, some companies did both service and products (hardware), so if your answer includes one of those, it’s the service side that I’m interested in here.
