The species in general. The flat earthers, the ufo conspiracists, the moon landing deniers, the anti-vaxxers, the illuminati advocates.

130th of 1 billion is less than ten million people. I assume you can do math. If you are indeed referring to human population, there are over 40 metro areas with at least ten million inhabitants. This post was edited by Don Barzini at March 17, 2020 9:26 PM MDT

The population was just listed at about 4 billion. Where did all these people come from? I guess the third world must not care about responsible parenting.

You may wish to update your information, BH. It was 4 billion in 1975

The current world population is 7.8 billion as of March 2020 according to the most recent United Nations estimates.
The UN incorporates the findings of the most recent national population censuses and of numerous specialized population surveys carried out around the world.
Modernised countries have very accurate statistics. But some countries have citizens born in all kinds of remote places with no way of recording the births. This means that some of the estimates would be very approximate and based on things like aerial photographs showing numbers of dwellings.

Based on these methods of gathering information, it is not possible that the world population could be 130th of a billion.
    1,000,000,000 divided by 130 = 7,692,307
(There's a remainder of .69231, but that's not a whole person so we'll discount it.)

    1. China             1,389,618,778
    2. India              1,311,559,204
    3. United States     331,883,986
    4. Indonesia          264,935,824
    5. Pakistan            210,797,836
    6. Brazil                210,301,591
    7. Nigeria              208,679,114
    8. Bangladesh        161,062,905
    9. Russia               141,944,641
    10. Mexico             127,318,112

There are 197 countries in the world. The smallest, Vatican City, has only a 1,000 people.

Keep going like this and everyone can see how the numbers add up.

This question originated from my response to previous posts in another question where the population of the earth was calculated by the poster of this current question wherein he came up with his 7+ million assertion of the current population of the earth

There I wrote that a 130th of a billion is 1000000000/130 = 7,692,307.692307692‬ or 7+ million---Do you not know the proper mathematical nomenclature?---that's part of what is required for a universal language to be thus.

Here is the link to that page:

It's possible his billion is different.  Numbers higher than 10⁹ aren't consistently named throughout the world which made foreign languages nice and confusing when I was high school.

    en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Billion

billion is a number with two distinct definitions:

    • 1,000,000,000, i.e. one thousand million, or 109 (ten to the ninth power), as defined on the short scale. This is now the meaning in both British and American English.[1][2]
    • 1,000,000,000,000, i.e. one million million, or 1012 (ten to the twelfth power), as defined on the long scale. This is one thousand times larger than the short scale billion, and equivalent to the short scale trillion. This is the historic definition of a billion in British English.

American English adopted the short scale definition from the French.[3] The United Kingdom used the long scale billion until 1974, when the government officially switched to the short scale, but since the 1950s the short scale had already been increasingly used in technical writing and journalism; the long scale definition still enjoys some limited usage in the UK.[4]

Other countries use the word billion (or words cognate to it) to denote either the long scale or short scale billion.

To the British, a billion is a million million. To us it is a thousand million. Thus the confusion.

Now tell me who of us two drive in te correct side of the road......it's plainly obvious who is right about the number thing as well...:)
A thousand thousand make a million,a million million make a billion....a billion billion make a trillion....god knows what number comes after that ...id just like for once in my life to try and spend ut....:)

7.8bn American nomenclature, where a billion is 1000 million. The archaic system of a billion being a million million is no longer in common usage anywhere, it's too cumbersome.

The first part of your question is right if you do orders of magnitude the other way which makes the population of the world 7.8 thousand million (0.0078 billion).

After reading these responses and doing some research, it appears that we both are correct because you and I both thought we were talking about the same number.

From the internet: England regarded the number 1,000,000,000,000 as one billion.

And your profile confirms you are in the UK

A good reminder that we should all be sure we are talking about he same thing when we ask or answer on sites like this.

1,000,000,000 (one billion, short scale; one thousand million or milliard, yard, long scale) is the natural number following 999,999,999 and preceding 1,000,000,001.  (Wikipedia)
