    Yes.   :)

And completely unrelated (other than this is Yoakam) - - Yoakam has written and performed THE most depressing-and beautiful Christmas song I've ever heard.
He slays me on this song. It's so beautiful in its downness that it beings me SO UP!!
    :)

And dig that trumpet solo.  :)

Ingrid Michaelson -- I like her a lot. That was a nice cover.

I'm not a huge fan of Presley's music so much, but, like Element 99, I think he had a nice voice.

I really like UB 40's "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You"  (and I've always found lead singer Ali Campbell attractive, ha)

And just now I read up a little on UB40 - had no idea that Ali left the group, his brother Duncan took over the leads for several years -- and this and that and then that happened . . . Ali returned, I believe -- then Duncan had a stroke in August. Hope he's doing well.

I totally forgot this cover!! I used to listen to it on repeat over and over when I was a kid lol. I loved it. I really like Ingrid Michaelson lots too. I was listening to one of my favourites by her earlier tonight  and how I stumbled on this cover,  cos was recommended while I was in her songs.

And even when I posted my answer long ago, I remembered Slartibartfast's dislike for UB40's cover - - but I still really like it a lot!  :)

    Same here!

Sorry. It's funny, though! And yeah, you'll never listen to the actual song again without thinking of it in Cartman's voice. I guarantee it!

Wash your mouth out with soap. The King is dead, there will NEVER be another King.

FYC should have been boiled in oil for what they did to Suspicious Minds. And don't get me started on UB40's abortion disguised as a cover of Can't Help Falling in Love - it's NOT a reggae song.

I think all his songs should be turn to reggae, then they might be tolerable.

Wash your mouth out with PRUSSIC ACID!

Elvis wasn't quite the phenomenal singer that fans thought he was, true. He was largely a product of the establishment - kids were turning on to "black music" (rock 'n' roll in its infancy), they needed a white man who sounded like a black one. Elvis fit the bill. However, he DID have a mean baritone and could manage opera if he wasn't asked to attempt the diction, which is why O Sole Mio was rewritten for him as It's Now or Never, and the German folk song Muss I Denn became Wooden Heart.
The only reason I tolerate reggae at all is 10cc's Dreadlock Holiday.

  • I loved this song by Tom Petty long before I realized it was an Elvis cover.

It was a German folk song before the Colonel had it rewritten for Elvis. He had no talent for foreign languages, the tiny bit of German he attempted was mangled.
