    I use the term too.  It comes from England where they were called coppers by the criminals.  Law enforcement hated it and now it is illegal in England to refer to the police as coppers.

      Being a former police officer, I was usually referred to as a cop by people which I didn't mind. However, when I talk about them I usually refer to them as police officers.

      Did you know that Don Knotts served in the US Marine Corps?

      As a Marine Corps veteran myself, I recognize certain phrases, mannerisms, and characteristics Knotts used in portraying the Deputy Barney Fife as having been lifted from everyday life in the Corps.

    I did not! Impressive to me, anyone serving in those kinds of services. I would have HUGE challenges to be in the military. I have much respect for those who can.

    I can see Knotts doing that though. Wiry, lean physical frame - - bound, tight energy - - whoa -- slow down Welby.
