Based on your travels, what is the one region or country you think everyone should visit if they have the opportunity?

None. That's an individual decision. Nobody has traveled everywhere, so I don't think anyone can intelligently make such a recommendation.

Are you a professional party pooper, or is it just a hobby?

Just rational and a realist. Any answer specifying a place is merely subjective.

Even though I didn't appreciate your implication that I had asked a stupid question that no intelligent person would answer, I wasn't just referring to this question. Does it make you feel superior when you criticize the style or content of questions?  Or is it a goal of yours to suck the enjoyment out of asking questions? Also, when I ask someone to say what they think, I expect the answer to be subjective.

I don't think it's a stupid question at all. That is your inference. And I only say what I think. I don't feel superior to anyone. But if I can use my abilities to help people write something that's easier to read, I feel compelled to do that. My question is, what's the fun of asking questions in a less than clear and concise manner?

“I don't think it's a stupid question at all. That is your inference.”

To be fair, Stu, you do have a penchant for belittling others for posting questions that you would not have posted yourself or questions that don’t think should be asked, or when you don’t approve of the subject matter. I doubt that Jane and I are the only people who have noticed it. Even on this particular question of hers, there’s not even a requirement that answers have to be or should be objective.

There was nothing unclear or unconcise in the question and Jane specifically stated that the answers should be based on the respondent's travels which would automatically make the response subjective.

Anyone can make a recommendation based on their own experiences.  Jane said "Based on your travels."

Maybe the Vatican city. That is all history there, fantastic place to visit.
I was serving on the HMCS Huron tied up in Naples and someone arranged a two day bus tour to visit Rome.

When our ship was in Naples, my girlfriend and I hopped a train to Rome for a couple of days. We went to the Vatican. It was splendid. So was the trip.

If I were to answer my own question, I would have said Italy. The Vatican was impressive and we went to the general audience with the pope which was quite an experience.

Great question, it’s both interesting and thought-provoking.

However, and in the probability that this may seem selfish, some of top places I can think of are on my list precisely because of their pristine and almost flawless natural beauty, something that would be marred by even the smallest infusion of more human presence. I have been in some of the most idyllic tropical jungles in Asian countries that had the very greenest foliage that I’ve ever seen. The air was so crisp and the water in the streams and rivers was so clear and clean that it defied any previous experiences. The only sounds for miles around were the wind and the animals, of which there were many.

Also, in the woods or the mountains in the Midwest where I come from, that same solitude and mysterious beauty I’ve also seen.

I don’t want to name specific places because I think that inviting more people to an area is among the first steps to its eventual ruin.

That's true. Crowds of tourists are a drawback to some of the most beautiful places I've visited. Your description of the jungles really painted a picture and I'd hate to have it spoiled with souvenir shops and people snapping selfies.

If you love Asia and jungles but hate crowds, Bangladesh is the place for you.  It's such an isolated and untouched paradise!  I truly hope it can stay this way for a long time to come.
