A couple of guys at the office I work in which we are moving were wondering about what to do with two air conditioners and I said I think I can fit one in my bookbag which elicited a pretty long and sharp laugh back from one. This is a bit embarrassing but yes I did. Once I was hired to be the Head grounds keeper at the Veronica Millner estate. I replaced a female that had left the estate it a mess.  Sometimes to do my job I had to ask people things about the grounds keeper I replaced. I would say things like - do you know were the other girl kept the irrigation maps or do you  know were the other girl kept the keys to the lawnmower. The people always had a smile on their face when I asked and I always thought it was because they were friendly folk. But about a month later it dawned on me that by saying the other girl it was like I was saying that I was a girl. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at February 24, 2022 2:03 PM MST

Yes. Once I was showing a class a molecular model kit that had plastic bonds and colored balls for different elements. While I was manipulating it into a shape, I dropped a couple of balls. As luck would have it, they were both blue, so I said "Whoops, I dropped my blue balls." Use your imagination how the class reacted. I still laugh at it.

Very good! It's nice to have a fun teacher. Wonder how the class would have reacted if was a lady teacher made that remark?

During a conversation with our condo caretaker, the property manager, and myself as board president, we discussed various maintenance items that needed to be done. The caretaker explained that we didn't need to clean the carpet in the guest room. The guest of a resident, who had a carpet cleaning business, had cleaned it in exchange for a free night's stay. The caretaker thought that was a pretty good deal and I agreed. I said that if he wanted to clean my carpets, he could spend the night at my place. The property manager burst out laughing and asked 'is that all it takes'? I was deeply embarrassed when I realized how it had sounded.

He's mostly likely searching for a picture of a black dude cleaning carpets at this moment.

Many times.  In Evidence class in law school the professor (who was a Circuit Judge) didn't have much of a sense of humor.  The conundrum was how could one prove that a horse was tired.  I offered a somewhat silly answer to that question, but it did provide a way to get to the needed end.  I didn't think it was funny and still don't really think it is funny but the class erupted and even the Judge's demeanor changed and she  laid her head on the lectern laughing when she couldn't get the class under control.

This is the example that came to mind.

As my mother would say..."A fartin' horse never tires and a tired horse never farts."

Yes. She was a very funny lady. And a bit irreverent.

That is a nice thing to be able to say.  I don't remember my mother ever saying funny things.  She laughed but she didn't make us laugh.

Not me, but my sister-in-law. Her cousin, whose married surname is Field, was expecting a baby boy. They were discussing names, and said cousin mentioned a preference for the name Kane.
My sister-in-law, without thinking, replied "Kane Field? Oh, sugar!"
The young man's name is Grant.

I said, “It’s an outrage! The police have been by here five or six times over the past few years waving search warrants in my face and tearing my sub-basement apart! Innocent, law-abiding and mild-mannered pillars of the community like me shouldn’t be subjected to harassment that’s fueled by duplicitous rumors and evil gossip! Grrrrrrr.

“Hey, wait . . . why is everyone laughing? Grrrrrrr.”
