How does rhetoric and sour grapes put out fires and will Trump thank Canada for their assistance?

Trump has once again politicized  the California wildfires. And once again it is probably sour grapes that motivate him. And it will likely be sour grapes that motivate him to hold or delay aid. Canada has already sent a lot of fire fighters and equipment to help put out the fires and we are preparing to send more. But I bet Trump will not give a thank you and it will be sour grapes that motivate him not to. Cheers and happy weekend!

    Trump is not President yet.
Has Biden thanked Canada? Or just making bad jokes about fires.   Even Kamala shot him a look of disgust for a second.

Maybe Canada can explain that you need water to fight fires.  This post was edited by my2cents at January 10, 2025 9:39 AM MST

One does not need to be president to thank others for their assistance.  That's common courtesy (most of us were taught to say "please" and "thank you").  trump, however, only knows how to blame - even when he doesn't have the facts.  he just wants attention.   Currently, the CA fires are eclipsing the attention he so desperately seeks - and he hates it.

From my understanding it is not a lack of water that it making fighting the fires difficult – it is a lack of pressure from the huge amount of water needed to go threw the lines. So maybe Canada can explain to Trump the need for infrastructure. When Trump was in office his contribution to infrastructure week was privatizing the airport traffic controllers. Cheers and happy weekend!

There are multiple reasons for the water issues, none of them due to lack of water. As you said the amount of pressure needed, especially for filling water 1M gallon water tanks that are in neighborhoods built uphill from the water source. Urban areas don't typically face this kind of fire. There were also hurricane force winds that prevented flying and dropping water from above. It's a shame, that so many lies get circulated and believed. And you're right about infrastructure. The kind of fires were seeing now, due to climate change, need an even more robust system of water distribution.  Here's an interesting article on the issues.

The firefighters did not have water to fight the fires.  You cannot pressurize 0 gallons of water.
Presidents are not in charge of state infrastructure,  the state is.  And Trump has not been President for 4yrs.

Maybe Canada can explain to Gov Newsom.

Joe Biden is sometimes clueless and tone deaf and I feel no need to defend him. But he has not lied outright,  insulted public officials, and politicized a disaster that is having tragic consequences for thousands of people.

It's no secret that trump hates California.  It's also no secret that trump lies through his teeth and enjoys spreading false information (he refuses to engage his "brain" before he opens his mouth).  Instead of criticizing and assuming things he has no clue about, he needs to shut up and show some compassion.  Of course, that's something he doesn't know how to do, as everything must be about him (in his eyes he's the center of the universe ).

trump cannot thank anyone but himself (he's always patting himself on the back).  Californians, on the other hand, are very grateful for Canada's assistance.  Even this small burg sent down personal and equipment from all 5 of our fire districts to help SoCal.

Canada and the US stand ready to help each other fight wildfires. In 2023, the US sent firefighters to multiple Canadian provinces. I'm sure that respective leaders exchange thank you's, but it may not get as much media attention as the actual fires and the devastation they cause.

Canada and the US are longtime allies and I hope nothing happens to change that.

I’m pretty worried that the relationship between Canada and the US is about to change and it won’t be for the best. Trump has started bad mouthing Canada’s military – saying things like Canada doesn't really have a military. Canada does have a well trained military and they have fought alongside the US military many times. But I’m sure Trump doesn't appreciate that either. Cheers and happy weekend!

Trump would like to withhold aid to California because Trudeau has not insisted on vacuuming leaves off the forest floors.
