We drove straight from L.A. To L.O. with only one stop.  it is a 16 hour trip, 950 miles.  We had to stop for gas and to pee.  I would have to say 8 straight hrs. We pulled the next 8 right after that 15 minute break.
Man, that was one heck of a trip.  We did make it for my Grammies birthday. That was our goal.  We were worthless once we got there.. BUT we WERE there. :)

"But... But... But!!!" I say with my disqualified paper crumpled in hand, "We still pulled the '8s' in between the stop!" For your reading pleasure, I was including the mileage between the 2 cities.  I could have said, L.A. to Lodi but how boring is that?" Still frumpled and catching my breath, "Would you slow down a minute Randy!  You're running too fast!  Just like you would run out of gas for making such a trip!" Thank you. "Now, just because my answer required a little bit of math your behalf, doesn't mean I didn't still pull of full 8 to and fro driving straight through!"
"@$^&* Sigh, Oh Bother!  It Doesn't Matter."  *&%$@ HUMPH!
Wait!  Do you remember that crazy astro-nut lady who drove from Huston to Orlando in diapers?  Hold on, hold on, just a sec!  Let's see if I can find it!  That was about the same distance as we drove and we did it in 16 hours (give or take a half hour)... Hold On, (I'm now smiling)

She wore diapers so she wouldn't have to stop.  We didn't go to that length.  :) :)

She wore diapers so that she wouldn't have to stop in case she needed to go . . . wait, she wanted to be able to keep going nonstop without going . . . hold on a second, number one, she didn't want to be the guy's number two choice, no, that's not right either . . . she was in a hurry to get there, so she had to be sure nothing stopped her from going, even though she wanted to go, just not while she was going, which meant that if she went, she couldn't go, or if she had to go while she was going . . . that came out wrong, . . . what I meant to say is that having to go would keep her from going, or needing to go while she was trying to go would stop her from getting to where she was going and it didn't matter to her if she went when she was going as long as going didn't stop her from . . . let's start all over; she was determined to go as far as she could but not if she had to go when she didn't want to go while going to where she did want to go in any way that . . . you're not getting this, so I'll sum it up, she had needs and urges that were urgent and needy, but being so greedy, she did something seedy, she wanted to be happy, and being savvy and scrappy, she wrapped herself in a nappy, I know it seems sappy, but otherwise things might have gotten crappy . . . I've got nothing here, sorry.

My car goes 350 miles on a tank of gas so the answer would be a little less than that.

If gas is all you're stopping for it should count. Otherwise 8 hours is the absolute max.

So everybody who claims a distanve of more than 500 miles is lying. A single tank of petrol won't take you any further regardless of what you drive.

  • What if you had two 120 gallon fuel tanks,
got five mpg and could legally drive for ten hours?

Adelaide to Sydney. I've done that one more than once, 950 miles or so. The shortest route is almost 100 miles less than that but I hate the Hay Plain.

That would be from the gas station in my town to the gas station in Ogallala NE on a trip to Colorado.  It was 497 miles.  I remember his car took 18.243 gallons.  My husband likes to cut it a little too close for my comfort.  I'm not sure why but my dad does the exact same thing on road trips.
