What do you do if you are struggling to sleep at night ?

That doesn't happen to me since I considered that lying awake is also rest. In this big pot of irony that we call life, such de-emphasizing of sleep makes it easier to sleep.

EDIT: My father has another technique, which is thinking of Advaita Vedanta. Puts a person right out. This post was edited by Danilo_G at April 1, 2018 12:36 PM MDT

    Find out why.

It can be stress, too much coffee, usually something along the lines of anxiety.

Sometimes some really simple thing works and sometimes you need a doctor.  Please find out why.  It is not healthy to get used to feeling tired.  And it is easy to let this suffering go on and on.

I need sleep more than most anything else.  WAY more than food.

Thanks. I don't feel tired....just bored of lying awake listening to my wife and dog snoring.

I give our cat a nudge with my foot then she starts purring - I find it  soothing and fall asleep. Cheers!

I try to empty my head of all thoughts.  It's not easy but if you're partly successful it can work.

  • Put on YouTube videos I’ve already seen 50 times, so they distract me enough to get my thoughts out but not enough to keep me awake.

I have a pretty good answer to this, but after some painful experiences I finally figured out that people don't want answers; they want sympathy. Well, I'm kinda short on sympathy. Some people say I'm short in a lot of ways. So you are on your own!

    I never have trouble sleeping.

I'll get up and go watch tv on the couch in the den. It's damn near impossible to lay on that couch and not fall asleep.

Have a small chunk of fatty meat -weiner, roast beef/pork etc and maybe add a little melted cheese will make you feel quite drowsy and relaxed.
