I no longer have faith in humanity.

We are a flawed, arrogant, endlessly destructive and superstitious species; naive, short-sighted, poorly led, and our own worst enemy.
In truth, we seem to endure despite ourselves, are unreasonable despite our gift of reason, and kill, lie, make war, conspire against each other and defile the planet despite our common interests to the contrary.

If aliens have ever observed us, they could not think very highly of our kind. This post was edited by Don Barzini at August 5, 2018 6:57 PM MDT

    Surely not.
But sadly, there are still some who are.

When people are brave enough to challenge authorities and the status quo, it makes me realise there are people that do care, and if there were just enough we would make a difference.

  • I'm  encouraged by certain courageous or selfless  behaviors or responses people are capable of demonstrating in every area of life. I don't invest any faith in humanity, to do so is a set up for disappointment.

Well, not everyone will agree or think this explains things, but "God doesn't make junk."---Although He doesn't apparently feel the need to share the reason for the creation of several people whose existence goes unexplained for me.

In a way of connecting our themes, AND addressing your quandary, might I suggest that the problem with humanity isn’t the stuff we’re “issued”, but what we do with it...

I guess when people do nice or heroic things. I don't expect humanity to be perfect and flawless so I have some faith in the good people out there, I pay them more attention than the cretins we have among us. They deserve it more.

People helping each other out sometimes.  But sometimes when you help someone,  they -instead of remembering to return the favor sometime they will just keep coming back expecting more.

Guess I don't view humanity as anything to have faith in.  My faith is in God.  But many humans inspire me by their living good lives for themselves and helping others. We must relate to other humans because they were given to us for that and we were not meant to live alone.  So we have friends and family and community and causes etc.

This picture is one of them -- a group of strangers held onto a man preparing to jump off a bridge to commit suicide. They held onto him, refusing to let him jump, until emergency personnel arrived.
