    Taking otters for others, no.
Because others have different practices, values and preferences.
I ask what others prefer or need before deciding how to behave towards them, and try as much as possible to act in accordance with their wishes, so long as I don't risk harm to myself in the process.

If it were otters, the same principle applies. Since they can only talk to me with their body language and vocalisation, I'd research the species to discover their needs, and then provide what they need to the best of my ability - which would probably mean protecting their natural environment - which I already do via the WWF.

Apropos otters' behaviour towards me - they already do as I prefer, which is to live and let live.
Dear little critters. I could watch them for hours. This post was edited by inky at November 5, 2020 7:05 PM MST

And it happens I enjoy your wit - often smile or laugh at it,
even though I'm not much chop at matching it.

It matters not. I have been doing this for many years. Thank you for the compliment. I strive to be not witless.

Yep ... I leave them alone.

Though I wonder what we humans would do, if a more advanced species captured us and put us in a zoo.
Or ... maybe Earth IS a zoo.  And that's why extraterrestrials are observing us.

Never met one, unfortunately, but I'd be kind to them. On the other hand, if they expect me to swim in order to catch and eat raw fish... I can't swim to start with!
