There was a great sledding hill located inside a dead President's estate in the town where I grew up in. It was open to everybody. Then one day a bunch of kids crashed into a fence at the bottom and were hospitalized. They closed the hill to sledders after that.

When in doubt, take the high ground.

Last October (2018).  My Bangladeshi friends took me to the Rangamati Hill Tracts during my visit to their country.

  • The Altamont -  my mom lives on the other side of the Altamont ( the hill where the famous Rolling Stones concert in the late 60's took place, where the Hells Angels killed a guy during the concert)

To see what was on the other side.  Do you know what I found?  A whole lot more hills.
This climb took 8 hrs. up and back.  Not to bad for an old fahrt, eh?

It's a stretch of road that goes over the harbor.  We don't have any hills here.  The first time I drove back home after moving here I cried when I got up around Gainesville and I saw hills.  I miss the mountains.

    A. For the view.  B.  For the challenge of climbing up 1000 feet and then back down again.
The view was spectacular, there was a Fjord on the other side.  But it's a running gag with me that I always have to see what's over the next hill or around the next corner.  I always say I found another hill or another corner.  It's an endless futile pursuit but that's almost always why I climb hills.
