  • I love reading about Henry VIII and the Tudor dynasty.    As far as research goes, Genealogy is at the top of my list, followed by the history of Deadwood and Lawrence County.

    Recently I got into the exodus story. Fifty locations are named, but we only know where three of them are. Here is a simulation, but the suggested location does not take them out of Egypt.

    Random factoid: The Chicago fire was not the biggest fire in US history. It was not even the biggest fire in the US on that date.

    I haven't studied the Hinckley Fire as much as I'd like but I believe that it killed more people than the Chicago Fire and it was bigger, too.
    But don't quote me on either of those.
    The Hinckley Fire had more-than-several fascinatingly tragic-to-me storied that happened to individuals, like at least a hundred people got into a large collection of water/pond where they then were surrounded by flames. But many survived by getting in the water.
    The picture I posted -- that memorial is, I think, at the site where the water was.

    I just ended a sentence with "was."

    I have no information about this Hinkley fire. I was referring to the Peshtigo fire.

    I only got to this part of the article and I had to stop -- I've not heard of this fire. Jesus.

    With the incredible drama of this Peshtigo fire -- I wonder why the Chicago Fire is so much more well-known. especially since they occurred on the same day.

    Whatever subject matter draws my interest. 
    I have studied as much history, religion and philosophy as I can get my hands on. I enjoy researching current and historical events, and have a particular passion for earth sciences (biology, geology, climatology, etc.) and Far Eastern culture. 

    As an engineer by training, I am wired to formulate effective questions to discover the best data. I relish the process. Few things are as rewarding to me as learning something I didn’t know before.
