From microscopic plankton to intimidating, deep sea lantern fish, the creatures that live in the ocean are as varied and unfamiliar as if they lived on another planet. Among these strange looking alien creatures, the geoduck of the Northwest Coastal U.S. has earned a reputation as one of the weirdest looking (it might make you blush) and most delicious mollusks to meet the American plate. Here, now, is a primer on this sand burrowing bivalve.
What is a geoduck?
First off, it's pronounced "gooey duck." Contrary to what one might think, it's not related to a duck at all. The Nisqually — a Native American tribe located in western Washington — coined the term gweduc, meaning "dig deep" and referring to the way this bivalve burrows far below the seafloor. Europeans later reinterpreted the native spelling and pronunciation.
Geoduck is a large clam with simple anatomy. There are two major parts to remember: the siphon or neck, which... less

The Starbucks logo is displayed in the window of a Starbucks coffee shop, in San Francisco, on January 24. The coffee giant has been accused of putting its customers lives at risk by using a hazardous pesticide near food.
A group of Tempe, Arizona, police officers have said they were asked to leave a Starbucks coffee shop on the Fourth of July after a customer complained to baristas at the location that they did not feel "safe."
The #DumpStarbucks hashtag began trending on Twitter and other social media outlets Saturday after the Tempe Officers Association accounts tweeted that Starbucks baristas have "zero respect" for law enforcement after kicking them out of the store.
According to the tweets, six Tempe Police Department officers were drinking at a Starbucks near Scottsdale and McKellips roads when a customer who "did not feel safe" c... less

President Donald Trump speaks to the media as he walks to Marine One prior to departing from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., July 5, 2019.
In his Independence Day address, President Donald Trump wrongly claimed that the Continental Army "took over the airports" during the Revolutionary War, more than 100 years before the advent of manned aircraft. When asked about the gaffe while departing the White House on Friday, Trump blamed the mistake on a teleprompter malfunction.
"Actually, in the middle of that sentence, it went out. And that's not a good feeling," Trump told reporters on Friday. But he immediately went on to say that he knew the speech so well that he didn't even need a teleprompter.

Veterans have spoken out against President Donald Trump's "A Salute to America" July 4 celebration employing tanks and fighter jets as wrongfully using military equipment as "props" and as absolutely and insanely inappropriate.
Trump is being criticized for ordering a military-style celebration with stationed tanks on display and Air Force One and Blue Angels flyovers while he delivers a speech at Lincoln Memorial in the evening.
Having military personnel transport tanks from distant bases to Washington, D.C., over Fourth of July week is "insanely inappropriate," Marine Corps veteran Kyle Bibby told Newsweek on Wednesday, "And flies in the face of everything that I understood about training as Marines."
"We just don't do that," Bibby, 33, said. "We just don't do parades, there's no tactical training value in that."
Bibby, wh... less

Starting in the 1930’s Dr. Edward Howell conducted 55 years of scientific research on humans on the subject of raw foods and enzyme depletion caused by eating cooked food over a lifetime. His groundbreaking studies revealed that enzymes are the catalysts for all biological processes and that life cannot exist without them. He also discovered that while raw, living foods are teaming with enzymes that cooking completely destroys them due to their sensitivity to heat. Enzymes within any given food make the digestion of that food possible. Eating cooked food not only denatures the food but also forces the body to steal metabolic enzymes in an attempt to digest the enzyme depleted food. Dr. Howell was able to make a direct correlation between eating enzyme depleted cooked food and the onset of chronic degenerative disease in humans. Dr. Howell’s conclusion – many if not all, degenerative diseases that humans suffer and die from are caused by the excessive use of enzyme-defici... less

Scientists who study large numbers of people around the world have found that certain foods are linked with death, cancer, and diabetes.
Of course, eating a little bit of these "bad" foods won't kill you, but they can have a detrimental effect on your health over time.
In general, nutritionists recommend eating fresh vegetables and whole grains, and cooking at home when you can.

Healthy eating can feel like a tricky game. Some diet gurus insist that carbs are bad, while others suggest that low-fat foods can help people slim down.
The truth is more complicated, though, and nutrition experts are starting to insist that there's just no eating plan that's right for every body.
Still, there are some foods that scientists have found — after years of studyi... less

Ohio is a critical state for the president to win in his 2020 re-election bid.
But his current focus is on the Fourth of July and officials

Well, Jimmy spoke his mind and said Trump's presidency was not even legitimate. So, what does DONNY DO? Lifestyle 2 Days AgoCooking Light — Jaime Milan
The CDC is advising consumers in six Eastern states to avoid buying fresh papayas from Mexico due to potential salmonella contamination that's already sickened dozens and sent 23 people to the hospital. The states where the affected papaya was sold include Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.
Since January, 62 people have been infected across eight states including Texas and Florida. 76 percent of the infected people report eating papayas grown in Mexico, according to the CDC’s report.
If you live in one of these states and have papaya from Mexico (including in fresh fruit salads or other mixes), you should throw them away immediately, even if no one has gotten sick. The CDC is also recommending that you sanitize the area where the papaya was stored, as salmonella bacteria is transferable. (Here’s ... less

Fuget About It is a pretty funny cartoon - I copied and pasted the theme below and it's sung with a Brooklyn mob family type of accent. Cheers!
Let me tell you something 'bout a friend of ours-a named Jimmy,
A made-a wise guy and a capo with the Gambini.
But when he found out that they’d be whackin’ uncle Cheech,
He take-a the boss, he threw him from the nineteenth floor suite!
Wasn’t much-a long 'til the mob all wants him dead,
So Jimmy had no choice-a but to talk-a to all the Feds.
The feds-a say they had to take him, use him as a pawn
So he ratted out his friends and moved to Saskatchewan.
