The senior class ahead of mine bought him the trench coat, ours got him the scarf - he was a good sport about it, wore them in cold weather and even handed out jelly babies in class.We also had a science teacher who was a dead ringer for Irish singer Feargal Sharkey.

As a child, I went through the normal dreaming or wishing to do many different things once I got older; firefighter, pilot, explorer, SCUBA diver, policeman, detective, writer, photographer, journalist, animal trainer, doctor, construction worker, actor, Marine, astronaut, tightrope artist, lawyer, international spy, businessman, big game hunter, private investigator, etc. I even remember when I was about age 13 practicing my signature so that I would be ready to sign a whole lot of autographs in succession without getting tired, lol. less

I not only had never heard his voice, I didn’t even know who he was, and furthermore, I had never even seen ESPN at all. At that time, I did not look into it any further to listen to him speak so that I could evaluate the comparison for myself. Not long after that, my interest in the topic waned and I soon forgot all about it.
Fast forward to today. Posting this question occurred to me, and as I was typing it, I remembered that I had such a story to tell. I checked online for ESPN broadcasts that featured Fred Hickman (it turns out he’s moved around to various networks), I listened to him and my opinion as to whether or not . . . you know, I think I’ll reserve announcing my impression for now.
