It's definitely not brown like your picture. I don't like our tap water here though. They put fluoride in it, don't like it's taste. I buy gallon jugs each week from the store.
It’s adequate/sufficient for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, bathing, etc. Even so, we’ve grown accustomed over the past decade or so to augmenting it with bottled water. ~
According to the SA Heath Department, it's potable. I live here, and I assure you it's not. The stench of chlorine is palpable, the stuff can etch glass, and Adelaide is one of only three international seaports worldwide where visiting cruise ships DON'T take on drinking water.

It seems to be fine and the yearly audit shows no concerns. I use it for cleaning and bathing and I cook with it after going through a filter. I drink bottled water though. All of my neighbors drink the water from the tap.
I think it tastes like water, but I've heard others say it has too much chlorine or it tastes like metal. I drink it all of the time. I haven't noticed the taste of chlorine or metal. I think it's a waste of money to buy non-carbonated bottled water.
When I turn the water on I smell chlorine. Sometimes very strongly. It's unhealthy to take a hot shower with water so chlorinated. I have filters on both kitchen faucet and shower heads. Problem solved.
Well water. It is good. The apartment we lived in had nasty wasty. I still think they used they wrong type water pipes. The house rented was the same water company and tap there was good.
Lake Michigan is the sole source of water treated for the Grand Rapids Water System where I live. Other than a chlorine taste it's quite safe to drink. Even though it's safe to drink I still use a Zero Water water filter to get rid of the chlorine taste otherwise it makes for a lousy cup of coffee. Other than that the surrounding well water is quite good.
