    Brutally honest means different things to different people.  Some don't want to hear any kind of
    honesty so they act all indignant and offended at the slightest hint of truth. 
    Sometimes it's just better to take a pass and let life slap them around a bit then they might get the hint. It's called learning "the hard way."

    To me, whether they're lying or telling the truth, often people say "I'm just being honest!!" as an excuse to be brutally mean and cruel.
