Ya I stuck a pair of scissors in one once. Stupid part was why I did it was because I had cut my mothers work check into a bunch of pieces and in stupid 8 year old head I must of figured sticking the scissors in the plug would make things better. Cheers!
When I was about 15 years old, we had an old portable radio in the house. The cord’s prongs were polarized (which to this very day I don’t really know what that means), and had to be plugged in correctly in order for it to work. Yep, I did it. I plugged it in, turned it on, tuned in the station, a song began to play, then I heard a loud sizzling sound, followed by a snap, crackle and a POP! The music died away as the room filled with the odor of the innards burning away and melting down. Smoke emanated from the tiny vents and I immediately knew what I had done wrong. The radio was a complete loss, never to work again.
What's a radio? It wasn't you. The outlet is polarized, meaning one slot is 'hot' and the other neutral. The radio probably had an un-polarized plug, where both prongs are the same width, and you unwittingly put it in backwards.

I'm with NJ, it's a power point. I've blown the odd fuse, either by plugging too many devices into one circuit, or a device with a short in it. In my misspent youth I used to make electrical "bombs", a cat's cradle of wire. Waited until the teacher left the room, plugged it in and set it off with a T-square. Shorted the building out. They never did discover why that room kept shorting.
You were quite the bright spark then in your school day ,a real live wire in your own right.... I bet you could light um many ohms single handed , you should change your name to Dinner Mo :)D
Blown fuses, at home. A safety switch tripped out once back in the old dial-up days when a download that had spent 3 hours coming across was almost done and I went to make a coffee. Plugged the kettle in, and it overloaded the circuit. Had to start the download again from scratch.
