Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» If a small group of people showed up at your door, preaching scripture and pushing pamphlets about their beliefs, how do you handle it?
I tell them to get lost. I have my beliefs and no one will change my mind. I don’t discuss religion with people. Very few people know my views on religion and if I practice one or not. I can’t stand people pushing their beliefs on me. I’m nice and respectful the first time telling them them leave. After that I’m rude and tell them where to shove it.

Yours seems to be the most typical response to this stuff. I think the majority of people are basically respectful, but hold that such topics should be determined by time and place, not imposed on them randomly at their doorstep.
Since I live in an apartment building, we don't have many religious solicitors coming around. The one time I did have that happen was when I was at my sister's house babysitting. I was outside doing something in the garage when the Jehovah's Witnesses came around. I was clear up front that I really wasn't open to their prosthelytizing but we did have an interesting conversation on the lack of civility and morals in society - that was about 15 years ago.
We don’t get them here either in our gated community. My father in law (a Southern Baptist) had an encounter with faith peddlers like these this past spring, but let his dogs run them off. It‘s a hoot to hear him describe it.
Oh has happened though no more than two people at a time. I invited them in and we discussed The Bible and I pointed out how my interpretations differed from theirs.
We only get Jehovah witnesses around here and I can spot a JW a mile away So when I see them I'll wait until they knock on the door then I will use my impression of a old lady with a crackly voice and say - who is it. JW usually won't say who they are instead they will say something like - we just want to have a chat with you. So I'll say - Wejustwanttohaveachatwithyou - who? They usually have no reply so I will stay in character and say - just a minute I have to find my icing sugar. After a minute I'll answer the door and still use my old lady voice to let them know I'm not interested. (I live in the boonies so I have to make my own entertainment) Cheers!

I admit I let two Mormon guys in partly because I found them cute and I wanted to ask them if they had seen the South Park Mormon episode (this was before the Broadway musical came out and I find the episode very funny). They had not seen it but had heard it was good. They were nice and not really pushy. Did I mention I found them cute? Ha! :)
And I think the caption on this image is hilarious! :)

I just saw this -- it's sort of funny. And these guys I find cute, too - - and the guy who opens the door, too! Ha!
EDIT: This guy has an excellent voice! Wait til he kicks it into high gear on the chorus! EDIT II: Actually, male and female, this parody video is packed with very attractive people!

I would just say "if you are not selling vacuum cleaners i'm not interested". "By the way if you see my cat in your travels could you please pick him up and bring him home? He's black with white stripes on his back". "Oh and the name he answers to is 'Stinky'".

I was playing golf alone one day, and caught up with the group ahead. One of them introduced himself as Reverend so-and-so from the local Baptist church. As we approached the final green, the Reverend asked me; " Mr. Wilson, do you know if your soul has been saved and you will ascend to heaven when you die?" I gave it some thought and answered; "I don't really know which way I will end up, but I just hope they have a golf course there!"
