There should be an option on email notifications. It should be distinguished from site notifications. Some people do not like receiving emails regarding this. Settings' options seems to be "bare bones now."
I just notice that the checkbox at "send me a notification when someone answer" is now set as the default.I would prefer it not to be set EVER. I get plenty enough SPAM without that.
